Absolutely excellent book. I bought it on the off-chance that it might be good and then had trouble putting it down.

Basically it's Murray's diary of his time in the Legion, from 1960-1965. What I found most interesting about it was the way he documents how he changes as a person during his time in the Legion. I thought in this way it had similarities to My War Gone by, I Miss it so by Antony Loyd and also the old classic, All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque.

If you see it, buy it (and the other two mentioned above). You won't be disappointed.

I have never read 'All quiet on the Western Front' or even seen the film, but its quit sad really i live in Osnabruck where the Author was borne. There is a museam dedicated to him and the jews who lost there lifes, which is lit up with anti nazi lights at night and again i've never visited it. Must make time to do so.

If you come across a copy, buy it. It's really worth it. I can't reccoment this book enough. The copy I've got dates back to the 1930s I think. My dad bought it in a second-hand book shop when he was a kid.

Excellent book as I recall (read it in the early 80's). It's still sitting (in immaculate condition) in my library, right next to a very tatty copy of "Devil's Guard" by George Elford (a better read IMO)...
