Live8

Post by Doc »

I promised myself I wouldnt watch it, but the Tour de France finished on eurosport so I flicked the remote and it landed on BBC1 Aaaargghhhh!!

Bob stood infront of a picture of a small girl from African who was starving etc etc and then brought her out as she is today spouting "You made this happen now she is healthy and full of life....blah blah blah!"

Then she makes a speech in swahili or something and then some bloke translates.

THEN..........!!!! Madonna comes on stage and starts singing to her, and moving her around the stage and this girl is like "what the fark!" :o

It was the cheapest publicity stunt I ever saw and sickened me that the richest bunch of hypocrytes on the planet through a big party that will result in more album sales for themselves and say they are doing it put an end to poverty.

BOB..........give us a couple of grand bud.....no? why you skint then are you?????

If all these pop stars gave 10% of their worth and the money it cost to setup live8 to Africa that would soon put a stop to poverty. (I know it isnt as easy as that, but you kinda know where Im coming from)

Does my head in when the rich ask us for cash or support for the poor in other countries, when we have poor in this country and the people of this country made the twonks rich in the first place.

I think we should have a Mil forums charity event, Sticky can provide the tunes, Mike can check the weather, Wholley can provide police protection, Sneaky can do a breakdance-a-thon, Cliodna do the catering ( :o ), Flo can set up the German segment with curry wurst und pommes for afters, Jenny can provide massages, Artist can kick the riff raff out, Pilgrim can build the stage, and Harry can delete this thread as Im going off on a mega tangent with no direction or end.......................

Doc, the boss had it on at the pub, made me sick really, I honestly don’t know what they think they achieved, other than proving to the world many of today’s "stars" are totally shit live.

Bob was there saying thank you to all these people for turning up and showing support etc, I was sitting there thinking, they don’t care, they just got a free kick ass concert out of it.

Maybe I’m being cynical, but lets wait 20 years and see just how much good live 8 did to that god-forsaken despot.

I'm probably one of the world's biggest cynic and self confessed music snob, but I watched the a tape of Hyde Park today and thought it bloody marvellous. For me it definitely wasn't about the bands (although the Floyd were amazing). Well done Bob, but please can we end a concert without the need for a 'Hey Jude' sing-along! :D

And another thing this was designed to encourage young people, who hear nothing of Africa day to day, to hear a message they otherwise wouldn't hear. It will not solve anything, but it will lay the pieces of the puzzle out for the G8 leaders to acknowledge. It puts pressure on the politicians to actually come up with solutions to these problems rather than the usual fudged (and invariably ineffective) compromises that help no-one but themselves. :fist:

Bob, the sanctimonious, tatty haired, egotisical f@#k wit. If you want to solve the problem of Africa, use the money to buy an army and kick each dictator out persoanally.
As for Midge Ure, I`ll kick the twat all over for just being a c@#t.

Well said Doc :yeah:

I was sat there with my family, including two teenagers, watching many acts by people I'd personally never heard of! ie Killers! I now understand why. If the majority of these people had been unknowns on Pop Idle, they wouldn't have made it to the next round. One of the 'Stars' reckoned his knees were still shaking from the fear he experienced during his act........try listening to it pal!

Apparently if you dress up in the weirdest clothes you can find in your mothers wardrobe, scream unintelligible, repetitive garbage that 'came to me' one afternoon, and play an instrument using all the strings and chords at the same time......... you can appear on Live 8.

Is it Peter Kay? Being interviewed by Johnny Woss, totally unfunny and struggling to be popular. Looked p****d but may always be like that, as well as fat!

Madonna :o Just HAD to use the 'F' word; more than once. :-? :-?

Ms Dynamite, during an interview, states that, 'This is for those what are not as unfortunate as us'! :o Made the evening for me, ........but then I got thrown out!

How can so many people have so many negative things to say about a positive effort? Do any of you cynical people have a better solution to have our voices heard with such a strong force? Well?

It sends a message, perhaps not a perfect one, but a very loud message that these are issues we care about. I do anyway...

Write off the debt so they can borrow another load of money, build bigger armies and start all over again. Sounds about right to me.

Gazza has the right idea... kick out the corrupt leaders

Fine get rid of the evil bastids, right off the debt and then spend money on schools, hospitals, agricultural methods, food distribution and put the cash into the actual hands of the poor. Nothing should go to governments, dictators or to the military. These people do not need weapons...

You're dead right. Bob Geldorf, (was he the one in Lord of the Rings? :-? ) knows that as well, and agrees with you, which is why he didn't organise yet another mega fund raiser.

Jenny,
what the African countries need are, educating about aids, education in general, investment of money to sort the country out, not arm the country. What it didn't need was a load of pop stars furthering their careers by appearing as good eggs. My daughter was going to go because it looked like a "good line up". She didn't think about the reason, just the line up. They could have raised the G8 thing by other ways and used the money spent to invest in just one country.
