This is extracted from the Jan/Feb 2005 Globe & Laurel (Corp magazine)

D Coy 40CDO based at Basrah Palace Iraq.

"D Company also provided convoy protection for the Prime Minister, Tony Bliar. During his visit to Basrah. During a stop at Shatt Al Arab Hotel, Mne ***** stepped forward and asked the PM if he would mind a photograph. "Of course" replied the PM, "that's what I'm here for". Mne ***** duly passed him the Camera, put his arm around Mne ***** and posed dutifully with thumbs up and broad grins. the PM fumbled with the camera and looked puzzled, his aides looked irritated, the OC looked thunderous, and the lads hugely enjoyed getting the PM on a bite!"

It's nice to see Bootneck Humour is alive and thriving!!! :D

Just for you Sonne.

Once whilst serving on HMS Fearless we were tied up in the Bospherous the river that flows though Istanbul. It was my turn to take the Jack down from the pointed end of the ship. Minor problem, I was a tad unsteady on me feet due to a slight over indulgence of Ale that afternoon whilst ashore.

Anyway I got into full Lovats with help from a couple of my Oppos and proceeded to the pointed end and waited for the order to haul down the Jack. Order was issued so I unhooked the flag and started to pull it down. A sudden gust of wind then caught the Flag and before I knew it the bugger flew away and ended up floating in the Oggin!

Bimbled up to the signals deck with negative Jack (Flag). "Where the Hells the Jack Evans?" Sayeth the Chief Yeoman of Signals who was called Butler. I pointed down towards the oggin "Tis there Chief" CYOS looks down and sees the Jack wallowing in all the crap and shit that was floating in the Bhosperous and promptly went apeshit! The Duty LCVP was tasked with retrieving said flag, Turkish Navy Pickett Boat gets to it first, CYOS really really goes totally Apeshit then!

"Why didn't you try and retrieve it yourself man!?!!?!" Screams the CYOS to Ickle me.

"Bollox to that! I ain't leaping into that shitty Oggin wearing full Lovats just to get a poxy flag! You've got loads more anyway" It was at that point that I was bundled down to the cells where I spent a very restful night being guarded by my fellow Mess Mates who were none to pleased that their shore leave had been cancelled due to me.

Captains table the next day................150 quid fine for not showing respect to my countries Flag plus stoppage of shore leave for the next three weeks. A set of Lovats cost 45 quid to buy new............hindsight. A wonderful thing so it is.
