It p*sses me off to the max when the MoD could have spent just a bit more money and bought a decent weapon system for the British Armed Forces.

Its just a shame the MoD had to buy this....

One good new addition to our arsenal is the UGL which is a great firepower addition to any section. Also i think its good the LMG ("Minimi") has finally found its way to our battalions.

Hey mate, at least you've joined up at the time when they've decided to get some decent weapons. You will probably see a new, hopefully decent, rifle come into service during your time (if you stay in for 22!). I joined up a couple of years after the SA 80 came into service and have had to put up with it for too long!!

just a quick reply ref. the m16 and the styer. if anyone has or in the future goes on a training exercise as an enemy party and are issued with the m16, (make sure there is no magazine on it and no round in the chamber) but hold it by the flash supressor and swing it above your head! the weapon cocks and fires!!! just a thought for all the gung ho i want to kill people on here. But for the styer it is a good weapon that rarely has stoppages and these days with the m203 attached and various sights it is a good weapon to patrol with.

WTF!!! I had an M16 as my personal weapon for 3 years, for some strange reason it never occured to me that I should grab it by the barrel and swing it around my head!!! Call me 'Mr Boring' and all that....

We know ronnie! ...one sniff of the barrel tells us that!

Away from firearms for a moment, I was wondering what / if the Forces use for body armour? See much news on the stuff in the US Army (mostly political I suppose), but can't even remember seeing a picture of a British soldier with a flak jacket.

Presumably we do have some though, does the MoD favour the modular steel-plate design or the lighter vests?

We started getting issued on mass kevlar vests in the mid nineties, we used to do cft's in the farking things until we took out the kevlar plates and put roll mat in instead. Only problem was at the end of a yomp and you take your webbing off the bottoms of the vest would roll up as the roll mat pieces had become soaked in sweat

Dont ask me the name of the stuff used, but every man woman and rupert should have it.

In addition to Doc's last comments (looking Franken-fine there BTW Doc!),
the body armour that has been in use for quite some time now is called Combat Body Armour (CBA). It has a kevlar inner with a ceramic plate front and rear which covers your heart area. And it's nice and snuggly in 50 degrees over in the obvious.

Yep, I hear that from my Dad all the time too. Mega weapon for long range shooting, but I wouldn't like to have one in a CQB situation though.

Saw the security guards carrying them at Goa airport when I went on holiday there a few years ago. Imagine the scenario-
"Stop, or I fire"-BANG! Straight through the crim, straight through the crowd of schoolkids, straight through the wall etc etc!

Yep, my Dad always says the same thing.

Its really a fantastic weapon and I love the irons on it... I picked this one up a couple years back, cheap as chips for a deac.

If you hoofed someone in the swede with it, you wouldn't be worried about it breaking anyway! Couldn't say the same about the G36 or SA80.
