Well I watched both programmes, I wasn't that impressed with the 'SAS Survival Secrets' I was expecting a more history type documentary, quite disappointing. Although I will continue to watch the series.

I thought the 'Telemark' one was good though, Ray Mears is so enthusiastic and I thought it was a good solid programme.

The reason why the SAS is at 60% Scots is because they came from a country with waist high razor sharp thistles and no-one had invented trousers at the time.

Did anyone watch that prog last night on the SAS? That was interesting, especially about the relationship between the iron lady and the regiment. Sending them into prison seiges and basically turning them into policeman. Weird stuff. Good old MAC and his insights into the situations. Did you hear the part about the killing house? With Mac stood against a wall with two bits of ply wood either side of his face, they'd burst in and shoot the ply wood after a flash bang going off. f*cking nutters. I loved it.

I must say that the I found the programe on channel 4 was more intresting than the one on the BBC. Did you hear the part about the killing house? You got to have bull's an complete faith in your mates to do something like that.

Yup, I saw it too. The content was very good indeed, as usual .

But as I watch it I'm starting to notice a more subtle aim in this series, particualrly given the input from old members of the regiment. It seems the main intention is the essentially set the record straight to show what the SAS really are like, countering the sensationalist rubbish that's been spewing reliably from every other channel. Perhaps a form of unofficial damage control? Eddie Stone from many other prgrams is conspicuous by his absence, I'm thinking they deliberately kept him out as he is too much associated with the very problem they're trying to address. The focus on the political and ethical dimensions to their activities is also notable. Other programs say "this is how we shoot someone", while this will ask "should the SAS have been in a position to shoot someone", which I think is a great strength.
Unfortunately I doubt it'll do an awful lot as the SAS writing corps continues to make cash, and there are already more SAS programs announced which will probably go on as planned. Besides, who wants to know abpout politics when you can watch people shooting up the countryside

There was a porgram on BBC2 ages ago which is now being shown again on UK history or something. About the Iranian Embassy seige which had Mac and a couple of others on it.

Anyone know if there are any such programs about the SBS?

I do that with me mate all the time. only we shoot ladybirds of each other ears.

Well i missed last week's Telemark programme but i managed to catch the final installment 2nite, sat glued 2 the box for an hour, brilliant!!

Loz, I think Ray is one to be trusted. As he said throughout the past three programmes, there is nothing quite as sensational as the actual story itself. I just finished watching the programme from tonight ( off tape ) .. those chaps were quite exceptional. It's amazing what one can push themselves to achieve when such an evil force as the Nazis has taken over ones country.

I could watch Ray Mears all day ( and sometimes do ) I think that bloke ( John Thomspon ) off the fast show could do a could sketch on him since he always has a usefull titbit or aside for the cameras

Heads up - "SAS: Suvival secrets" is back on, tonigh at 8:00 on BBC2. And it's following on from the last lot, this time about close protection and close quater battle. My expectations aren't high but at least it's only an hour .
