Initially i giggled at that. Then i stopped and thought.... Well why not? Seems like a perfectly feasable idea and could potentially bolster their relations with the EU. After the shoddy underwear trade fiasco a few years back.

20,000 isn't a hard number to scratch together between all the peace loving countries on this earth, the simple fact is they don't want to make the sacrifice required. In fact it would probably only take half that number, as long as they had a mandate to attack hezbollah if they broke the terms of the ceasefire.

The only things that will help this problem are:
- Disbanding of hezbollah
- Removal of hezbollah from government and any other extremists
- Buffer zone manned by effective non UN troops
- Return of the soldiers
- Lebanon given international assistance to protect itself and secure its own country.

Yet even if all those terms are met Iran and Syria will still do their upmost to destabilise the area.

Its not the only thing

1) Israel should abide by UN resolution 242 and not break
international law whenever it feel like it

2) Israel should give back the Shabaa farm lands which belong to Lebanon
and release Lebanese nationals who have been in Israeli jail for the last 25 years.

3) Give the Palestinians some human dignity and their own state instead of illegally occupying it with settlements.

4) Give the Golan Heights back to Syria

If the US and the other western countries had a fair foreign policy towards the Middle East then maybe the Middle East wouldn't be so volatile

Israel is the problem. Hezbollah is one reaction to that problem.
The footage on the news tonight showed civvies that`s CIVILIANS, with multiple shrapnell wounds consistent with CBUs. Of course, those poor Israelis are only defending themselves etc Don`t make me laugh.

Now Israelis nip across the border and carry out raids into any country that takes there fancy. Cars that are thought to be carrying terrorist are rocket and often they only have civilians in them. They push people of their property in the name of Israeli security, then when some one fights back they are terrorist. just how many people are the Israelis holding in prison with out trial that they have snatched of the streets, thousands. I am dam sure if I was a Palestinian I would be up in arms over it.

Pre 1948 Palestine was only one of the possible choices for a Zionist state. Paraguay and Gambia (I think) were other options being talked about. I wonder what the world would be like now if one of those had been chosen.

I think the treatment of the Palestinians is absolutely unforgiveable.

As for Hezzbollah - of course Israel cannot negotiate with an organization whose only aim is the total destruction of the state of Israel.

And, actually, it would be impossible to negotiate with them because they are only acting on behalf of Iran and Syria. It's those two countries who need to be at the table, not Hezzbollah. They'll do what they're told.

One other question for our glorious PM Tony Blair-

If indeed Israel is solely engaged in merely “defending itself” how come there is no Navy rescue mission of Brits from Tel Aviv or Haifa?

As for intervention troops forget it ....
Why should anyone, other the USA, assist the Israelis with their expansion or land grab program..
I for one do not want one Brit or European soldier there.
Let the Israelis do what they did before and occupy Lebanon.
It won't be long before they have to leave again...
Buffer troops would allow Israel to continue with the occupation and mistreatment of the Palestine Arabs without a fight on their Northern border and therefore they wouldn't have to negotiate with the other stakeholders of the region.
They (Israel) were offered peace before and the Palestine Government offered generous terms, with the land fixed under the 67 occupation not the UN 47 land borders. They rejected that and wanted more land....
This could have all been over a long time ago but for the greed for more land of the Israelis and the bloody mindness of some the Arabs groups.


Israel is now calling for the implementation of UN resolution when it has never conformed or complied to any UN resolutions concerning Israel.

One other consideration.. if the US supreme court considers that Bush is in violation of the Geneva convention with Guantanamo bay does that make George a war criminal liable to arrest and punishment when he is outside of the USA?

One other thing that gets up my nose is that the Israeli military and some of their politicians talk exactly like the Nazis did about the Jews in Europe during WWII.
I have heard and listened to Arabs talking about Israelis and how they hate them but they do not consider them sub-human. When you dehumanise any people whether by your talk or your actions you dehumanise yourself and forget the lessons of history.
