What?.............No one liners? It wasn't......
Well I quite agree with you there O bountiful and courageous Prez...
It certainly says something when you read the topic concerned with Artists Piles .....Which, to the uninformed, has lasted well over a year and with few hijacks, mild meanders or roundabouts..... Now if does that doesn't imply anything about the members of this forum... I don't know what does?

viewtopic.php?t=1174&highlight=piles

Please don't try to read all of the above topic......a/ you don't have the time...b/ you will be in the continuous state of Swamping....c/ I can't be held responsible
Aye

:D I think Artist probably has enough threads to make a pile...although I gather he's maybe not all that interested in pursueing this particular subject anymore... even though it was at one time something fairly close to his heart...
. Ps. Skydrol works "great" for piles as well as the seafood you'all were discussing... :D

Ardennes44 wrote: I agree, Buford. Do you remember "coming out" parties? It was a relic of the time when girls "came out" of the huts where they had been imprisoned, and were offered in marriage to the highest bidder, the best hunter, or the man betrothed in infancy, according to the custom of the people.
Yep. Remember them will. Hideous things. And that lovely quaint custom of the owner of the bride (the father) 'handing' her over to her new owner 'her husband' in the marriage ceremony.

I don`t know, it`s just my opinion. Does it make sense?
Yes. Whatever we may think of them, lots of the old rituals have been ripped away in a generation or so, and what have we relaced them with? Maybe that is why so many people are seeking comfort in TV and junk food. Yet would you want to go back to the 'good old days'. I remember my mother telling me (she was one of 7 children, 6 girls and 1 boy) that her father told her that it was a waste of money to send girls to University because they only got married. So the brother got to go. She did not go until she was well into her forties. It affected her whole life.

I've seen just the outward part of a Rite for the girls in a village in N. Kenya... we flew some medicos and a portable field hospital in... and were in and out of the area until it was time to move it to the next place. An irish Catholic priest was working with the folk on a mission which he had set up in the 50's... anyway, he had us over for dinner, and then took us with him to see the ceremony.. these girls had just had their first mens... thus the 'ceremony', lots of witchdoc dancing/ceremony...the insides of a goat's stomach smeared over them... goat blood...etc... then were gonna be basically 'sold' to the highest bidder from among an 'approved' group of fellows who had gone through their ceremony somewhere out in the bush... the witchdocs 'read' the inside of the remains of each goat to see what the gods had to say about who was to get who... ah, romance...

Combining Buford-Herky threads together here.... :)
Hurling the shoe after the bride was meant originally, it would seem, to indicate the transfer of authority over her from her father to her husband. We are told that the Anglo-Saxon bridegroom always hung a slipper in a prominent place in the new house, for the sentiment of that period seems to have been... hope you guys are ready for this.....

My rite of passage was as a cab driver, doing spinouts for a drunken customer on a snow-covered street in Wisconsin for an extra $20 in tips. That was when I was called by (fill in the name of preferred deity, such preference guaranteed by your birth in a free society), who said in sonorous tones remarkably similar to those of Charlton Heston, "Get some sleep, kid. He's not paying you enough to break your neck."
