Oh dear oh dear.
What can I possibly say to the wannabe gunner green knees.
The fact he uses Green in his name says so much about him. Not from any form of cowardice of course, he has stood his ground, albeit when he should perhaps have reconsidered his options and made a tactical decision to withdraw.
You really should take heed of the postings on this forum from those older, wiser and far more experienced than you.
I have served with and alongside the RAF Regt in a number of theatres. Most recently on Op Telic (note spelling). I am not a Gunner by the way. The guys I was dealing with were very professional and knew their job. They did not pretend to know mine. When they needed expert assistance they went to the expert in that field, which on occassion was me. I am fully aware and have met some of the personnel you mention. A small number of personnel from the RAF Regt are serving with other Units in various capacities. This is nothing unusual in the modern UK forces structure. You will find RAF personnel on RN ships, and RAF personnel working with the Army. By the same token Army personnel work with the RAF and so on.
I have undertaken CSAR training and took part in a CSAR exercise. Whether the Rocks get that role is a matter of debate. Whether UK CSAR would ever be deployed is another matter for debate compared to the assets that the US put into this role.
The RAF Regt used to have Field Sqns equiped with light armour. They lost those. They have Rapier. They are loosing them too. Where do they go from here....trenches?
I have also worked with and for various SF units. You are talking complete and utter pooh. Nuff said.
