I think he means there status of the platoon they train in.
For e.g Royal Marine 924 troop

Cheers for the info, I do know a little bit about how my own Regiment is trained.

Here's a couple of reasons why that statement made no sense...

1. Para Regt Recruits are organised into Platoons, not Regiments.

2. If you have a friend in '343 Para' (even saying that was a Recruit Platoon), he's lying. I don't know what number Platoon Catterick are up to now, but it was in the early/mid 550's in 1989. Unless they have started counting back for some reason??

By the way, why is everyone writing in mong/text speak on here all of a sudden?

If you are hoping to join the Airborne via the Infantry route does it really matter if you are 2nd or 3rd battalion? I mean if you pass and earn your wings surely the honour of being a paratrooper should be more than enough. I know 2 para are historically covered in glory but so are 3 Para. The Battalion suffered extremely high casualties at Arnhem in Sept '44 along with all of the British Airborne units involved and they served during the Falklands and so on...

I am thinking about joining 7 RHA, should be doing a solo civilian jump next month to test the old nerves and will take it from there. From what i've read whatever Airborne unit you join high fitness and strong willpower is essential...i'd better get running!!!
