I was looking to apply as an officer, however i made a quick visit to the doc's to check my medical records just to be on the safe side of things, i had a crazy 3 weeks when i was 19 taking drugs which included class A's and had to go to the A&E as i had taken to much at the time.

However Im 26 now and during this time i have moved on from this incident and obtained a degree in the process and done alot of growing up.

I actually feel sorry for you fella. Granted I think you were a biff trying the drugs in the first place, but f@*k me, that was 7 years ago.

We've investigated whole companies because their morphine syrettes were handed back in - EMPTY. Troops in Kabul investigated & done for doing drugs, 30 squaddies at a time.

Whilst I agree with the views of my fellow colleagues in here, that drugs, recreational or non-prescribed, have no place in the armed forces, I think it's poor that you've been turned away, after an admission of stupidity, when you'd have gone through all the relevant blood tests anyway.

I'll defer to people in the know, as I'm not sure what drugs have a recurrance value, but does the armed forces have a strict 'no admission' to former drugs use?

Lastly, I do think it was niave to think you could join the armed forces as an officer after making it publicly know that you have previous with substance abuse. Perhaps not the wisest career path?
