Lots of pilots, even in the Air Force use contact lenses. The problem is eyesight on entry, if it's below standard you'll fail.What if you get your glasses knocked off?

My eyesight on entry is normally quite bad due to me being HIGHLY intoxicated.

yeh i can put a sentence together i was just using text talk because its easier and qwuicker. I wont anymore.
And to whoever said "what happens if your glasses get knocked off"!
After training if a pilots eyesight gets worse and he or she requires glasses they are allowed to wear them, so what happens to them if their glasses get knocked off?
I know im not going to get in the RAF because of my eyes but if i could and had the choice i'd love to fly a chinook! they look well cool!

Also is there a it of give on your eyesight? Like can you be slightly long or short sighted at all or does it have to be dead on perfect vision?

I wear glasses and have faced restrictions as you now are. I am pro glasses wearers. I do however understand why some restrictions are placed on certain employments.
i.e Height/weight/strength/eyesight/general physical ability and intellegence.
My eyesight is not fully corrected with my contacts due to a stigmatism.
Unfortunately we have to live by the rules even though we don't agree with them. What is you eyesight standard? +/- ?

Most pilots experience a degradation in eyesight due to the demands of flying (concentration, long distances etc).
If you enter Service as Aircrew with poor vision, then you might continue to degrade to a point where you are not allowed to fly.
Also, it can cost over £6 million to train a pilot. Do you think the RAF would sack them just because they eyesight got worse?
Grounding a trained pilot for weakened eyesight is not the same as refusing to train someone for weakened eyesight. It all boils down to the ££££ factor.
Also, when it comes to Pilot Selection, there are usually SO many applications per vacancy that the RAF can afford to be as choosy as it likes. Hence, the selection process utilises such factors in order to weed out the greater majority of candidates.
Re: Text Speak....not exactly the best demonstration of potential Officer/Pilot qualities is it? You'd be better served spending your time trying to improve your communications skills............

And to goreD i am not to sure what my exact eyesite is in comparison to the +'s and the -'s. I am slightly short sighted, not that bad though i only have to wear glasses for watchin TV or far away work.
