Nice presentation set - and it DOES beat having 'em sent in the post
thirty eight years after the event (South Arabia ) .....still - I'd fallen
through the planks by the time the decision to award had been made.

NO - I've not received my Pingat Jasa as yet - Norway seems to be in the
"Miscellaneous Countries" bag - I'll have to try a diplomatic 'phone call
to one of Fred B's contacts at the Embassy over at your end.......

Did try ringing Fred - but no joy - he gave me a number yonks ago which
of course, I misplaced.... I suppose that Norway will be found by the
Embassy "shortly". Can't seem to reach Fred - the Sec of the Association
as the number no longer clicks in - perhaps he's been terrorised by a 'couple' of other blokes who are still waiting

Anyway - good that they are being awarded in the UK at last - you
deserve it....

As my wife and daughter are down in Egypts land for the winter hols I'm
able to visit here more often - I'll now use the next few days to catch up.

It's a tit for tat holiday - as I was allowed to visit Lympstone last October !
We go by the "Exotic Country in exchange for an Exotic Country" sort of
agreement...... fair do's.

This pay thing goes on every where, as a Bootneck I was happy with what I got, well everyone went down to the NAFFI with a sock full of change some time:). But it was the same in the Police after I left. I was firearms trg. Sniper.rapid intervention( same sort of house clearing as sas ect,planes, trains and automobiles,advance entry( termal lances and stuff, worked on the arv, armed and loaded everyday, 2 or 3 jobs per day all for. Nothing extra.

we do it because we can and we have pride in what we do, but it would be nice to have some one say here is 50 quid a week have a drink to chill out

I took my sock down the NAAFI once,and when the time came to turn out the change a pay up,imagine my embarrassment.I had brought my love sock by mistake,well I could feel something in it when I picked it up!.

Well think your self's lucky you did not do National Service as you got just on half a regulars pay for the same risk. Also you still got stuck for tax, national insurance, barrack room damages and every thing else they could think of. Yet as National Servicemen you could still wind up in the Marines or the Para's and some very nasty little battlefields, and who do you think that got volunteered for the very nasty jobs on a battlefield, well it wasn't the regulars as they were to expensive to loose.

Not strictly true,Tab, the NS men serving with Royal 47/50 period were not in separate units, except whilst training. They did exactly the same training as CS Marines, and when joining units in the Brigade the Troops were a mix of both, no difference in pay and conditions, but time overseas was much less than for CS men.
