There's loads of room, they're pretty high off the ground. Folk used to sleep under them then get crushed as the tank sank in the mud overnight. Pretty grim, really.

I've got a book on the FFl by John Robert Young. 20 years old, mind, but a great read. Lots of pics.
Their 2 REP looks to be the biz. A mixture of the SAS and Parachute Regiment.
Kolwezi in 1978 was a daring rescue mission in 1978. Kind of sealed their legendary status.

Yes, we kind of guessed that.

Ya and prior to that it would of been Dien Bien Phu that sealed their status as soldiering men whose resilience hailed from something quite old.

That's right, the legion took part in the first Gulf War - they were tasked with securing the western flank of the coalition advance.
After it ended, they made Norman Schwarzkopf an honorary legionnaire. I saw an interview with him, where he said they gave him a card, with a phone number on it, telling him to call that number any time he was in trouble, anywhere in the world - and they'd come and bale him out!
You don't need to speak French when you arrive at the legion... but the quicker you learn it, the better - the more orders you understand, the fewer times you'll get smacked upside the head for $%^ing up! So it'd pay to get at least a basic understanding before you went.

girls, girls, we`ve been here before, use search ffs
Duexiemme REP were in Gulf 1 and what impressed was the number of .50cal weapons they have

Consisting of large numbers of former Royals, Para Reg etc it is the nearest thing Legion Etrangere has to a decent unit and they aren`t bad (stand by for incomming from former FFL road makers

)
I visited their museum and saw loads of stuff ref old Storeman. Laughing out loud in such an establishment goes down like a dose of crabs but I couldn`t help meself when I read old Storemans autographed phot.
It says " To the Forran Legion"
Check out G`dung, White half track or D`Anjou on search for the full sp.
Au revoir mon brave.
Je ne regret ne rien, well not much, anyway

Heh heh - 2REP are good - typically, if a generic 'Special Forces' book has anything about the legion, it'll be 2REP: the legions para's. Mind you, 3REI aren't bad, even if they do guard a giant firecracker. Their assault course in Guyane is supposed to be pretty tough.
An account of
Harry's museum visit (second last post).
Forran Legion?!

Bloody Yanks
