I think you'll find all kids do that, it's the ones that buy the gear and stand at home in front of the Mirror, doing their Rambo bit that worries me, half of them are not kids and have no intention of ever joining, just use it as a line when they get some chick back to their council bedsit......
Then are stupid enough to bragg about it in the boozer....
We had this guy who got a job at my local Rugby Club as the Gym Instructor...I walked in to said gym and he's there in this tight fitting "God is Airborne" T-shirt, so I've asked him what Battalion he served in, his reply was "Para 1 mate" needless to say he didn't last long in the job and got a fair amount of stick of me next time he reard his spotty head..

Its a RM t-shirt. Shows how much he knows, or perhaps he didnt care to look at the writing on the back - "Because he failed the Commando Course!"

I ordered a para smock off the net to wear at cadets and also when I'm rabbiting in the woods as the velcro is noisy on the '95. Yesterday it came, with a union flag and set of subdued wings. Both would easily pull in th girls, but I haven't earned them so off they came. I wish all people did this and found a more honest way of pulling.

That said I have done a gliding scholarship with cadets and I am entitled to wear my glider wings, which I do with pride. Even seeing people wearing these pisses me off and they are not real in the sense of your wings, it must really piss you off to see Walter with his.

Over here I see children about 7-8 years old wearing their dad's uniform/berets. Te older kids go to the PRI shops and buy some stuff. Then they run around the streets with sticks as guns.

I was on a CCF week long camp at Nescliffe last year (mike_B will remember ).

I was just having my dinner in the cook house when this cadet walks past my table to go outside and i noticed Para wings on his brassard.
I get up and grab him by the jacket. C/sgt he was, l/cpl i was! F*ck that i say, he looked the same age as me, but not half as build as i am, so a walk in the park if it came to a fight. So i questioned him about the wings. I asked him if he had done the Brize military parachuting course and if he had done P-Coy. The answer to both, was "No".

Anyway, after a heated discussion, he is looking ever more nervous of my presence, and finaly tells me that he was given them when he went to do some sh*tty course with the Paras. Cough Ballsh*t Cough!!


Anyway, i rekkon the lad had bought them for himself to look the part. I should have smacked him up, there and then! All in favour say "Aye"

Nescliffe! What a great place. Fond memories of there. Except our WHOLE contingent bar the Lieutenant was blowing chunks none stop - some guy with a mullet brought a bug with him.

The NAAFI is a bit rubbish there though! Great totty from Norwich though .

Aye btw. Except theres a good chance you would get booted out of CCF!

In Canada it is legal for a widow to wear her husband's medals on Remembrance Day, etc. The rest of it is a bit of a grey area as (truth be told) no one really gives a crap (just too damned apathetic).

What is clearly against the law here, though, is the wearing of military uniform and rank/insignia that a person is not entitled to. For instance, a few weeks ago, I was down in Waterton with my wife and kids for a weekend. One day I saw this big fat bar steward walking down the road with an old style garrsion jacket (the really strange looking camouflage thing), Chief Warrant Officer (RSM) rank and Royal Canadian Regt. shoulder titles. It was blatantly obvious that the greasy creature had never served a day in the forces. He was, to be frank, two pounds of shite in a one pound bag! Had I not been with my wee tribe, I would have taken His Fat Grossness firmly to task, but the Mem Sa'ab doesn't like "scenes" and tends not to talk to me for a couple of days afterwards; hence said fat incorrectly-dressed greasey person went obliviously on his fat greasey way, unscathed. One can but hope that an ex-RSM type crosses "fat boy's" path in more favourable circumstances in the not-too-distant future!

nobody should wear any badges, insignia or headgear or anything until they have earnt them in my opinion. but medals are different.

Agreed. I think we just have to look down upon these ignorant people in the knowledge of how hard these courses are and how hard it is to get into some regs/corps and just walk away and ignore them.

If they ever set foot in depot to attempt any of these courses, they will have a short sharp shock and probably get binned straight away.

I dont like people who actually lie and say they have done such and such a course, or i have served in such and such regiment/corps when they flip bergers in Maccy D's. Does annoy me.

Cant wait until i am a para, and can look down upon those civvy ****s.

Nice - just remember whose tax pays your wages no matter how elite you are. But fair point about the tossers

Theres a pretty good new book out called "Amongst the Marines" it is available on Amazon. I have read it. It portrays a rather different picture of life in the "corps" to be honest it seems like a bit of a place for bullys.

Albeit tough highly trained bully boys. I was never a marine but I reckon this book will put alot of dreamers off.
