The only time I can think of when something happened like this was in 1984/5, I was on the training team of 500 or 509 troop one or the other. The troop and two NCO's went up to Offa's Dyke north Wales on a Home Guard Ex organized by the MOD. The troop was under the command of a real Capt Mannering with little to no head for tacticks or warfare some f##k up , the troop were back trooped 2 weeks on mass, thay didnt like that. Sticks were you there , a lot of Royal Marine Bandsman were on the Ex, One of the fighting fit oboe players had a heart attack on the yomp up to the top of Offa's Dyke, the ex was only 20 minutes old skiving barstard, (I hope he was alright)it was'ent you was it Sticks

Ah, "Brave defender"... I was there. I was the one with the GPMG at the front. We got into a contact with the defending forces on our move in. Paras! Some officer legged it past me, him with pistol, me with GPMG, no blank barrel, no ammo, bergan, webbing etc. "You get up to the contact" It was like going up the north face of the Eiger to us... I stopped dead in my tracks and he did as well... "Why sir? I don't have the kit to carry out my job!". He stayed with me until we joined the contacts and listened as I lay there shouting BANG!
Check your PM Ginge...

Surely, Sticky you should have shouted 'rat-a- tat - tat Stoppage' with a GPMG followed by 'they shot me lads, you go on without me, I will be OK!
Followed by the sound of tea making and ciggy lighting. Plus fumbling for a mars bar. :D :D

Or am I getting confused again ??? :o

Chunky... I was as green as grass but would do that now and throw a few 'for exercise grenade' as well, I was lippy though! As I remeber, we were attcked by the LC's from Poole and one of them threw a brick which hit our OC on the head... how we laughed as he was casevaced out. The SBS were attacking the main CP as part of their final exercise, one of them was caught and binned... shame that it was a bandy that caught him but I suppose wrong place wrong time can happen to anyone.
