Doc wrote:Stokey a forum suggestion for ex forces would mean just that

Under the wannabes umbrella I do include the good and the bad, not because I have you all in the same box but because those of us who have served like to talk to others who have served and no one else.

So if someone who hadnt served wanted to join even they were the best thing since an upstairs in abungalow, they wouldnt be allowed too, saying that we may get an ex forces member who is a complete and utter prong, our problem.

I used to input alot into mfat and on here in the early days (and still do) to wannabes asking gen questions, I also bait the w4nkers for my own amusement too

I also bait decent guys just to get a bite as thats me....

I also can take the piss back, its fun, but these days noone baits back they just drip and slag...poor form.

Wholley, agreed bunker back please Jay asap

Doc
Thats fair enough, I can understand a want to be around those who have been thought that ,that you have. (Think i made sense there :-? )

Not directed at you stokey so no crying into your pillow tonight ok

But here is the point in fact, some old sweats join in on Mikes post and then the wannabes join too, stating facts totally unrelated to the thread.

Sometimes us old sweats just want to talk to each other.

We dont get involved in shite about nintendo or "shall Ipost a pic of me blowing a bud or not!" Suprised he hasnt posted here yet offering words of wisdom.

More of a reader then a poster, but how I used to chuckle to my self reading the banter from the old and bold.
Now I just find myself chuckling to myself In disbelief, as someone who has never served tells someone else who has never served what It's like and what they should be doing, and all In a language that takes me about 5 minutes to decipher.

It's such a shame these forums have declined so much they helped me so much when i first joined Iv'e made loads of friends etc even recently i needed to get hold of a blue beret for an old bootneck in the WA RMA and a member of these forums got me some and thats what its all about now its just bickering and arguing just makes you laugh when you see lads posting and giving medical advice etc

Anyway im off to work.

It's the people that post on the site that help make it what it is, and yes I agree as some of the older ones that have dropped out for what ever reason then the site also loses some thing. Now if any has the answer to this there are many on here that would love to hear it.

A lot of sensible stuff written above - Hope it helps .....

Doc - I agree that the Listeners post helped quite a few - and I remember
the early days of patching out oppos who needed a lift. Sometimes it
worked, but sometimes we missed out - anyway - we were there.

I never berfore, never, (almost) took a look at the profile of the poster of
an unusual entry in order to find out where they'd served, where they
were coming from etc etc. Now, however, I find that more and more often
I will buzz into the profile in order to guage the age of the poster.

I have been dumbfounded by advice ( given to people who are in need of
advice ) being provided by virtually sixth formers who have never served.
I know that it is well intentioned concern - but - leave it.

Fodd - I know where you are - I know your address - I hope that you jog.
:D
Give my best to His Highness Harry ...... and - above all - enjoy yourself.

See - you've made me post again .....

To Fodd

I’m one of those of those people who has been commenting on medical issues. If you find it laughable, then that’s fair enough. You’re entitled to your opinion.

Three years ago my life changed completely and I was dumped into the wayside by the medical community. Basically told my life was over. Every doctor I saw [ and there were many ] told me two things: due to the twisting of my spine [ in three places ] plus my disk herniation plus a damaged pelvis that I would not walk again. At the time that was true, I could not walk, but they gave me no hope. The second time was with the collapse of part of my lower back. I was told I would be paralyzed. All of them agreed on that.

Thanks to studying medical books, looking at new technologies and finding two excellent specialists [ non-doctors ] I am walking again and am not paralyzed.

I had to figure out what was wrong with me on my own. Nobody helped me.

I put these postings here in the hope that someone [ or their mum or dad or girlfriend etc ] may find something that will help them. Several people have contacted me by PM and I’m doing my best to direct them to people who can help them. I don’t get paid for any of this.

I know we all think our health will be with us always [ as I always thought ] but it doesn’t always work out that way.

Things we did when we were younger can catch up with us in later life.

People are entitled to think what I’m putting up here is a complete load of crap and I’m fine with that. However if you would like to PM me, I’ll put you in touch with a bunch of people whom I’ve helped who have a differing opinion.

I still have a bunch of physical problems and am unable to work just now. I spend my time posting on forums in the belief that someone will see something that gives them a bit of hope. It gives me something to do whilst I’m healing and hopefully helps someone.

I really don't think he meant you Dave, you do at least appear to know what you're talking about!
I imagine Fodd is referring to the few lads who are due to be joining in the next few months who are trying to give people advice on what happens if they get injured, despite having no experience...

Don't think I've seen any of your entries Dave - you entered the Forum
while I was leaving to lurk .... You may not have seen any of my posts
either - I'm quite blunt about my cancer.

I wouldn't interfere with threads on medical advice - as long as it doesn't
include burning feathers, chanting or doing something to chickens -
everything can help someone out there in some way or another -
contact is sometimes enough.

Anyway - post away friend, hope you can help someone and receive some
encouragement as well !

dave 1234 I don't know who you are I have never read any of your posts Hyperlithe hit the nail on the head I was refering to spotty 16 yr old lads giving out medical advice etc When i had my comaprtment syndrome you wouldn't beleive how many pm's iv'e had asking how it can be cured! im not a doctor :o :o

And then when a member of these forums sometimes helps and has the knowledge and background to give out advice a spotty 16 yr old gobs off I just love your combacks doc.

thats not what military forums is about the old and bold are here helping young lads join up and giving advice who cares if theres a bit of sarcasm in posts end of the day you are joining a military unit and thats service humour god help you all when your training team are making you run around the parade square like a monkey or sit ups in your bivvy bag

when I was a young 18 yr old looking at joining up i got given lots of advice of harry hakendoff, artist etc nowadays most of the old and bold have jumped ship and I can see why.

anyways dave 1234 I was aiming at you mate and welcome to mil forums.

Thats my rant over im off to the beach to go skimboarding on a nice australian beach  8) :drinking: :drinking:

No problems mate

My dad [ passed away now ] used to own the "Antler Bar" in Kinlochleven over twenty five years ago. The hostel in the village was used by the marines as a training centre.

I used to know a lot of the marines there at that time.

Had two good mates who joined 45 from Kinlochleven [ they'll be in their late forties by now ] - haven't spoken to them in nearly thirty years - Malcolm Reid [ excellent skier - think he represented the Corps ] and Billy McDonald. Maybe somebody out there remembers them.

Used to drink with the booties on DG. Booze was so cheap – you could kill yourself for a dollar.
