These sharpshooters in the platoons. Are they the ones using the new L115A1? Do they go for sniper training or are they just marksman?
If I'm not mistaken, the L115A1 has a bigger calibre than the L16A1, does that mean the it is more powerful? Now that is very puzzling. If the snipers are the best shots in the battalion, why are they given a less powerful weapon compared to the platoon sharpshooters?

hey i dont normally browse these parts but i couldnt help reading this section, ive always had a keen interest on snipers and ive watched a few TV programmes on them, i saw the one on the history of snipers throught the american civil war and one on the 5 week sniper course at the Sniper school at fort bragg in CA or where ever it was, is there a sniper course in the marines? I have my potential royal marines course in early march

Yes, the Boot have snipers and they run their own courses. First priority for you is to get through training and get yourself known as a good soldier in a rifle platoon. No unit recruits sniper candidates straight out of training. Pass all your APWTs at marksman level, keep your fitness high and maintain all your soldering skills at an excellent level. It took me over two years to get on an internal sniper cadre in the Army.
Cheers

Infantry regiments normally have a sniper platoon. There isn't usually that many of them, so you'll have to be one f#@*ing hell of a good shot to be considered.
