I don't think I've had a pulled muscle, I always imagined them as just a bit painful but really quite irrelevant, I thought to be serious damage it would have to be bone, tendon, ligaments etc

There's only one Kevin Keegan!!!!! Newcastle, Newcastle, Newcastle
Thanks for your great mature response to my post, lovely use of the Queens English, glad to see you didn't take offence

As for fighting you... personally I value my time and would rather not waste it.

Also yes, Newcastle beat us, fair and square... you've hardly enraged me by pointing the blindingly obvious fact out.

All the best

What the hell is your problem? Your maturity is staggering. I don't personally know you and can only judge what has come out of your idiotic mouth, so on that basis I think your a stupid little kid who thinks he's hard becuase he can be the big man with his keyboard.

Have to do with what? You seem to have conjured up some great big argument in your own little head... like I said previously I'm not trying to insult or attack you, just pointing out what I see to be stupid and potentially harmful pieces of advice.

So make it 18 months and 3 days :x
Further displaying your ignorance saying weight training could possible stop you growing... and physical fitness has nothing to do with your performance in a fight. How come boxers spend so much time getting into physical shape?

Its fine by me if you want to chat about you being able to knock "some stoke fan" out. Far be it from me to stand up to a lad behind a computer screen

Not at all, but fine, believe what you wish I’ve spent too much time talking on here and I can see this conversation is lowering the tone of the board, if you wish to shout abuse at me please do so by PM.

Sorry to Gimpy as his thread has been reduced to this.

Please can we get back to the advice for his bad knees

All the best

I suppose because he's right and your an idiot.

Remember your posting on an open forum too, so anybody who has a read through can form an opinion of you.

What does it have to do with you that Gimpy has sore knees? What does it have to do with us that you pulled a muscle in your shoulder? You aske a question and people posted. In a cheesey way we come on here to help each other as well, have a look at that thread about euro_andrew failing to complete his 30 miler first time round. Only a few people who posted know him, yet EVERYBODY was getting round him and geeing him up. Something called TEAMWORK. Obivoulsy something your big head and ego haven't got around, obivously.

David

PS and no, I wouldn't have a problem telling you this to your face.

EDIT: Was writing this while Stokey replied, so like he said, let's get back to Gimpy's knees!

Hey can I just bring up another point...

Newcastle might have beaten Stokey's team but karl, can you remind me of the Manchester United vrs Newcastle score, I currently can only use one hand to count and 5 fingers isnt enough.

Anyways gimpy, get yaself down to the GP some time soon matey, they'll either tell you to rest for a few days or refer you to a physio.

Id give swimming ago though, it's without a doubt, the best exercise you can do as it increases your level of fitness without impact such as caused by running. Although, if it hurts while your swimming, defo stop and see your GP. It may just be since you've recently started training.

On another note, stokey you're a boxer arent ya? So I'd assume you arent talking out your ass when talking about lots of physical training for boxing ;)

An adaption on that the best exercise you can do is pool running. Everythign is the same as running except you do it in the water. As your weigth is supported theres no impact as with ordinary swimming; you're workign all you running muscles int he same way so keeping buildign them up and the huge resistance increases CV and builds your muscles. Many top sports people do this full time, but certainly as rehab from injury its the best thing you could be doing for yourself. Unlike many other cross taining methods,w hich keep your CV high a lot of the running specific muscles are neglected meaning you still have a transition getting back into running a little below where you left; with pool running working everything else the same then you will likely find running has got easier. You may feel you look stupid when you're doign it but you've got to think whats mroe important, you'll be a marine and the sad saps in the lane next to you will still be trying to lose that extra pound...

As has been said though before you start to try and get back into running have a quick check with your GP/physio and check all is well and its not a more serious issue. If given the clear work back into the sport, and look at possible causes, shoes etc. for you becomign injured in the first place.

I do box my self, so I know a little bit about the training of a fighter (though I don't clam to be the next Cus d’amato  ) even at armature level the training is pretty intense... if you make it :D

Maybe that’s an idea if you have got bad knees, get down to a boxing gym?

You don’t have to fight, some gyms do boxersize class's which are great for keeping in shape, I occasionally go one if the amateur coach can't make a session.

Basically the one our gym run's consists of all the usual boxing training except sparing. Most amateur clubs would also be more than happy to have you train with them if you didn't wish to fight, obviously some exercises (jump rope, tuck jumps, burppy sprint to mind) might aggravate the knee, and punching etc also includes knee movement but it is very low impact.

Just a though

As has been said, the doc should be your first port of call

 I loved that one.

Ooooh big scary rumours :o .

I heard a rumour that if you don't use it, you lose it.

So I damn well use it these days.

Mr Kiwi, I hope that one is a myth! Heaven help us who don't have girlfriends! Or like me, the ability to pull, which in my case is zilch! :D Anyway, in the mean time, like ADDiction says, mine isn't going nowhere!

Karlbfc saying that any injury to the knee would stop you from walking is quite concerning, but it's alarming that a doctor gave him that information. I don't study medicine, but I have ruptured an ACL. After 2 weeks the swelling had settled down a lot and I could walk without any problems. I could also run in straight lines. By Karlbfc's logic, I wasted quite a lot of money getting a reconstruction! If only I'd have thought of growing a pair.

More to the point - Gimpy, listen to what the guys say and seek real medical help, you shouldn't mess around with your knees.
