I don’t know if I’m talking out of my arse so correct me if I’m wrong here but the way I understand it is that wearing a red beret would denote that you are part of or attached to a para unit which would not be the case for a parachute trained RM Cdo as they would still be part of their Cdo unit but would bear the wing flashes to show that they are parachute trained and as Artist stated it would make sense that ML's, SBS and members of a unit's Recce troop get first dibs as these are the people most likely to utilise these skills.
Like I said none of what I have just said is fact it’s just my understanding from reading the post and thinking about it logically.

Personally I don’t think the hostile atmosphere is doing the individuals involved or the forum as a whole any favours, too many posts seem to end up in arguments. The forum is here for advice which is built up on opinions and constructive criticism.

I did my Para Course in the mid 70's.
I did it for a couple of reasons. The main one being the extra dosh you get for drawing Para Pay and other one because the job I was doing required me to jump out of airyplanes whilst they were still flying.
Please people let's start yet another "Them and us" situation going (most of you ani't even joined yet anyway!) as it bores the arse out of us guys who have served. I have mates who were, and in some case still are Proud members of the Parachute Regiment.
If it came to it and I was on my jack jones and was miles away from the nearest Bootneck then I would rather have a Para next to me whilst in the shitty stuff than ony other member of the armed forces.
They are a proud regiment who have nought to prove to me or anyone else when it comes to their total profesionalism. I went on a couple of Army sponsered Courses during my time in the Corps and I always found the Para bods had a similar attitude to life as I did.
Long story short, once the Jokes and Pisstaking between us was over and done we got on and then all off us took the piss out of the HATS!
Hats Green! Hit the beach! Cue an LCVP hitting the beach and all the Bootnecks leaping out of said LCVP and then hitting the beach with their fists shouting "Naughty Beach, PUNCH! Naughty Beach! PUNCH!"
Two thing fall from the sky.....Birdshit and Paras!
At the end of the day we serve the same Country do we not?

I think SandyTheGuvnor's reply to that was something along the lines of:
Yes and they both make a mess when they hit you!

Geting your brown wings is easier than getting on a jumps course, and a lot more fun.

I couldn't let those sort of dits fall on such innocent ears. Not on this site anyway maybe on one of my extra curricular sites.
