Sort of links in with my previous post, it would all depend on the tests they did and it seems to me that their is a very varying standard. There was a story about it on the bbc actually.

But I'm not sure if all opticians do the same tests. Thats why I asked.

if you go the opticians used by your AFCO (they pay the fee if you do) you eye test will be quite thorough, including that twat of a machine that blows air into your eyes!

As far as I'm aware most highstreet opticians now carry out an in depth eye test for everyone - Vision Express, Optical Express and Dolland Atchision (spelling?) definately do.

The ishihara test is compulsory for the Navy - it's one of the criteria on the form that your AFCO will give you to have completed by the Optician.

As far as telling if you've had laser eye surgery, any optician can tell by the fact that your cornea has previously been sliced open and then replaced. If you didn't tell your AFCO you'd had this done and then later on in your career you have a problem with your eyes, there's a high chance you'd be medically discharged. Most forms of laser surgery, especially the older methods, have a negative on night vision. This is the primary reason why it is not totally accepted by the forces as yet.

Well my buddy an ex RM said to screw em, and just tell them nothing, and they won't know. Im getting mine done, and he said to wait about 6 months for your eyes to heal, then come on over.

When i went for my eye test, i asked the optictian if they could tell by looking that i had had my eyes done. She said they could tell as there was slight marks and that was after about 14 months of having it done.
Do you really want to lie to them then risk having you application binned?

I really don't however I also don't wanna wait 12 months, Im already 25. I might have to just cut my chances and say look, I can see fine, no problems, give me every test in the world lol.
