Couldn't be more right. A term i've always heard and said is "Rugby: A game for animals but played by gentlemen. Football: A game for gentlemen but played by animals." - same thing.
I think thats obvious when you see the respect involved in the game, involving player to player relations and simple verbal communication with the ref, you would never get what you see in football done in rugby. Fair enough, you actually get a proper scrap in rugby and they're good fun but you still respect each other afterwards, none of this bitching and handbags like there is in footie. If rugby wasn't a contact sport then there would be no violence what so ever. Is football a contact sport? Its not classed as one. Do you still get violence and alot of disrespect - yes. The excuse would be its 'passion'. Well im sorry, but i think alot of the time the real reason is, they're just a complete d*ckhead who needs a smack to pull them in line.

In rugby, what happens on the field, stays on the field - drink and laugh about it at the bar afterwards. :D

May if forever be that way. 8)

EDIT: You're right Wholley. Rugby Union - its the way forward :D

Football is full of prettyboys, who will do anything for attention and respect.
Rugby is full of real men who have no desire for attention, and they respect themselves and the other men on the field

AJ is spot on, but I still love football. I just hate Frank Lampard, the chubby sulking bastard :P .

Union is the bollox. The camaraderie is excellent and what I love most about it is the way opposing fans can drink in the same bars afterwards and have a good old laugh. In all the rugby games I've been to I've NEVER seen any trouble whatsoever off the pitch.

Footballers = bunch of overpaid soft fairies. Good fitness though.

Yyyyeeeessss! 8)

Yeah we might beat the sh!te out of one another on the field, but thats part of the game and you always give as good as you get, and then have a 'boat race' with the other team in the bar afterwards, if they're up for it

Union is a sh!t hot team game. :D

You think hockey is for fag's? That's my Grandfather's game, he's still as solid as a rock. He was a keeper before the introduction of protective equipment, his bones were shattered defending his goal. He even managed two hairline fractures from stops he made with his skull. Two time Kent county champions, the army taught him pride and courage, and he carried that into his game.
