Prince Edward with all his (what for gongs?) is a complete and useless
article. He should have completed his CCse and then resigned.
He will regret this total and abject failure until the day he dies.
As for RM officers Artist is correct. The accent is immaterial as is the
background. A few years ago the son of the OC SBS was binned in
YO training. Likewise the son of a well known RM Lt. Col. failed for
a commission in the Corps and then subsequently for the Army. Now
he is serving in the Green Slime as a JNCO. And so it goes on and thank
God the Corps is egalitarian and cosmopolitan in its selection process.
It is now much fairer than in my day but for me the rank was not the
major factor since my aim was to purely serve in the finest Corps in the world.
Not my words but the Rt. Hon.Winston Churchill's.
RM., Colonial Police & Queen's Regt HSF.

So some may have a Plum in their mouth? If they don't earn the respect of their Marines they will be binned regardless of where they went to school or what daddy did.
I don't know why certain posters here would have a hang up about a posh accent anyway... I come from a quite well off family, but I try not to judge people on how they speak.

My best mate, the para is from Leigh Park, near Havant used to the biggest council estate in Europe, it doesn't bother me at all.
