well my date has been put back to the 12 july, this is because i'm coming all the way from glasgow and there is only one train that runs on sunday, this would mean that i wouldn't get down to very late at night, also i'm having a short rest as i'v got an injury so i'l have to get back to a good level of fitness after some rest

Hey guys,
i had my Royal Marines Aquant Day (RMAD) today. it was a real eye opener. its designed to show you what day 1 of PRMC is like. there are a few things id like to say to let people know what to expect.
1. the warms ups - we did a 10 minute warm up prior to the 3miler. it consisted of hill sprints, marking time, "stand up and sit down", press ups, sit ups and tuck jumps. we did loads of sprints and i was hangin out before we even began the run. the run also started straight after the warm up with no rest inbetween.
2. the Press Ups - i knew they used a close grip but i was shocked to see just how close! it was like a tricep press. your hands were about 3-4 inches apart and right under your chest. loadsa guys struggled with this and the PTI said that most guys dont expect it (i certainly didnt!)
3. the discipline - the PTI said that down at lympstone in the phys tests, if anyone shuffles, scratches or moves when theyre not supposed to everyone gets tuck jumps. we had to stand at ease when we finished each exercise. doesnt sound much but when your hangin out and just want to bend over and have a rest or get the sweat out of your eyes, its quite hard.
hope this is useful to someone.

Interesting reading - Its always nice to hear a first hand experience.

yeh we did do Gym test 1 on RMAD, was ok, i did better than i expected.
its straight after the bleep test, you get paired off and after a breifing by the staff on how to count the press ups its straight into it. as i said the press ups really are VERY close grip and they are very strict on technique, they knocked loads of people scores down for elbows coming out. i didnt get any deductions but only managed 36. my oppo did 26 but it was really gutting for him because i could hear him doing the press ups but he wasnt coming quite far enough down to touch my knuckles.
after that it was demo on the sit ups. you have to make sure your elbows touch the ground and then when you come up they must touch the TOP of your knees. you must keep your knees together aswell. again people got scores deducted for bad technique. i managed 78 which i was well chuffed with.
we conducted these outside as there was no space inside, but to do the chin ups we went into the gym. th PTI explained that you must keep your thumbs ontop of the bar as in PRMC you do it on a beam and so you cant use your thumbs then. i did 6 quite easily, but something to remember is that you do it to the PTIs count (ie "arms bend.... arms straight". for guys who went up or down when they werent told to, he kept them in the arms bend posistion longer.
the PTI who took our RMAD is the PTI who takes the PRMC so he really did know what he was talking about.
hope this helps, any other questions...just ask.

This is a good point, i know that you use the beam but would never have thought about the fact that you wouldnt be able to use your thumbs, i will have to keep this in mind when training. I guess its these little details that can only come form experience which is why its so great that people like you post up things you learnt from being there. Although before jumping in at the deep end i still need to be able to do normal pull ups first lol, loooooong way to go!
Some good scores your getting espeicially seeing as you still can cram in a bit more training before your PRMC. Did anybody 'fail' i know you dotn fail it as such but you know what i mean,
Thanks very much

Sully, Joe, I think I'm gunning for a PRMC around about the same time as you so I could well be on your course.
Whereabouts in Bristol you from Sully, I'm from sunny Frampton Cotterell.
