enemy at the gates i think is stating the obvouise while trying to look cool. but most of the films good

I believe if British Film making got its arse into gear and managed to produce some decent worthwhile propaganda material, people in this country might start to respect and admire the military and veterans again.

PS. All Quiet on the Western Front is the best, I am pleased it was from the German perspective, because it shows us that underneath our exterior frames, we are the same. We have the same fears and dreams.

I really like Zulu, that film's just fantastic, especially when they're singing at the Zulus and the Zulus are singing back then theres all that charging and the FRONT RANK...FIRE!!!!! going on, great stuff.

I watched Saving Private Ryan last night funnily enough but I was too tired to really dig it. It's cool at the end when the huns come after the bridge with their panzers and stuff, I think what made it realistic in places was the way it was shot with the jerky runny around camera, and the way in a lot of the battle scenes there was no music. If it was a battle in something else like Zulu or Star Wars there'd be a big sweeping orchestral score making it all really grandiose, but I think the only sounds being gunfire and screaming brought it down to earth. Opposed landings look like the scariest f@#k things ever.

Dramatised psuedo fly on the fly action film about a platoon of Para's serving in N.I. The opening scene is of the patrol emerging from a sparse wood and advancing across open scrubland when they are engaged by a PIRA ambush team c/w GPMG! In true Para Reg fashion they advance to contact! Extremely violent and bloody film more about people and what they're capable of, than about Para Reg. Cracking film though!

I have yet to watch Apocalypse Now in one fell swoop .... I can only watch it in chunks and even then have to fast-forward bits. Same with Saving Private Ryan. And Killing Fields. I watched A Bridge Too Far recently and thought it was a brilliant, understated film.

Loved Deerhunter but was freaked by it.

For sheer entertainment..... and Donald Sutherland's performance .... how about Kelly's Heroes?

I cant remeber the full script but I can remember a scene with the Governor speaks to the ex-booty who lives on the island and has grabbed a SLR to join and says something along the lines of surrendering or something and the booty replies (with the govermant house in ruins and rounds zipping left right and chelsea)
