Had the king not died when he did and thrust the Duke into his duties as consort to the Queen, he probably would have made flag rank. It is widely accepted that he resented being thrust into ceromonial duties, rather than being able to continue his professional naval career

Guards Parachute Company are part of 3 Para. They do exacly the same job as Paras as they are Guards Paras. The difference from a Para and the rest of the Infantry is P Company, the Sgt on my Insight course said that. You do exact same CIC as everyone else, but your fitness standards are a lot higher.

Holy shit, have you had a head fart. Para trained guards aint 3para and never will be. If you stood in a room with 3 para machine guns and said that, you wouldn't come out alive. Don't know who told you that but its utter tripe. Its not just p-coy that makes a para, its the para depot before p-coy.

Nah not a head fart. They are 6 Platoon, B company of 3 Para. So they are not part of the Para reg then?? They wear everything a Para does except, a blue red blue flash behind the para cap badge, Who cares anyway, because a para's pride won't let it be, you have to be the best and nothing can knock that perception of yourselfs. I aint going to lose sleep because of any of this. I am proud as f@#k to be Blue Red Blue and on 12 August when i stop calling myself a Trainee Guardsman and become a Guardsman, i will be the proudest i have ever been. Just as proud as James will be when he passes out 2 weeks earlier than me.

In July [2001] the Battalion welcomed the arrival of a platoon of parachute trained guardsmen, which now forms 6 platoon in B Company. All five of the Foot Guard battalions are represented in the platoon and it is completely integrated into the Battalion. While serving with 3 PARA the soldiers wear the Parachute Regiment cap badge with the Guards blue /red / blue patch behind it. On arrival, the Guards Platoon threw down the gauntlet and achieved a very creditable second place in the annual McKay VC inter-platoon competition. It was a particularly arduous 3-day competition that stretched all of the competing platoons and was finally won by A Company

This is my first post on this site so I dont want to sound like a gobby crow but I might have something interesting to say on the subject.
Im a member of the Household Cavalry Regiment and have been for nearly 16 years. In that time I've spent just 2 years (the first two) "prancing about on a black horse" as Hostage said. The othr 14 as seen me in Iraq, Bosnia, Northern Ireland, Kosavo, Cyprus as well as excersise in Canada, USA, Turkey, Balize, Norway Germany.
But granted they are people in the Household Cavalry who spend nearly there hole career at Knightsbridge but thats there choice. Some spend their hole career operational as Armoured Recce as well again their choice.
On the subject of P Coy there is the opportunity to do it in the Household Cavalry as we have a Squadron attached to 16AA Brigade and also did with the old 5 Airborne Brigade. We also use to have and attachment to 3 Comd and there fore you had the chance to do the AA Commando Course but were not attached anymore, I think the LDG's do that now someone tell me if I'm wrong.
So going back to the original question then yes you can become a Recce soldier and do P Coy with HCR. As Dave Mil said (one of the only people who knows what he is on about must be Armoured) Armoured Recce is no longer about driving around in a Armoured Car (Armoured ha ha) behind enemy lines send info back for the big boys to finish the jobs. Now days we spend more time out of the wagons on our feet do Infantry work. Digging in doing OP's , Close Target Recces which means spending hours crawling around and spying on the enemy drawing sketches etc. As well as getting stuck in with the enemy as Iraq as shown where we worked along side the Paras as a part of 16 AA Brigade. The Household Cavalry won more awards per man than any other unit in Iraq. Also as already been mentioned there isn't many Armoured Recce Regiments about so there a very good chance you will be on operations more than most other Regiments. The Household Cav is a good Regiment as as just been shown in Canada where we hammered 2 battlegroups when we played OPFOR. OPFOR shouldn't win but we did on both occasions. We are a very good Regiment who as a very good repertation so I wont have anyone bad mouth us by saying we just prance arround on Horses. Thats a completely different Regiment. Theres Household Cavalry MOUNTED in London on Black Horses and Household Cavalry REGIMENT one of the most active operational Regiments in the Army who normally work in front of our troops Reccing the enemy. So if its fighting you want then why not the Household Cavalry. And you can do P Coy if you wanted and even go Guards independent with 3 Para. But to be honest if you really want to be a Para then join the Para Reg, We do P Coy but really dont need to do it. Ive worked along side the Paras, they give us sh*t and we give it back. Its all banter. They need us and we need them.
