Clearly those people put off dont have what it takes therefor the advert is working in the fact those people wont be wasting everyones time ? I find that hard to believe to be honest, If it was even true and they was so booked up what changed in just 12 months if they're suddenly struggling to get interested people ?

By the way i was on a PRMC in january last year, I only had to wait 4 weeks to get on a PRMC if i wanted to... i decided to go on the next one though and wait 6 weeks but still my PRMC wasn't full up.

P.S. If what they told you WAS true then its funny because 12 months ago they turned away borderline potential marines who under the current climate would have got a PRMC pass.

Theres no way that can be right. when i had an initial chat at AFCO and said i wanted to be an officer they said thousands had applied and only 50 odd had got through!

I agree with JM, you certainly gonna have to have some determination to even take it up in the first place and carry on all the way through... the 99.9% bit just means that those with a pair of balls and want a challenge and a good career can have the opportunity to do so, without those who take up spaces in the POC/PRMC who fail at the first hurdle, i.e. the bleep test

Most people will see the toughness of the PRMC and training as a barrier, and not as just another hurdle in the way to becoming a commando. I think most people think they havent got a chance at all, therefore arent prepared to risk losing what they already have to get a green beret.

I though this a few years back when reading about the commando tests - I thought to myself 'f@#k hell only a mad/superman could pass them' and thought about joining the army - at least id be almost guaranteed a chance. But then it dawned on me that the Green Beret is something special, and the training is so tough for a reason. So, you can either accept the challange and work towards it or choose an easier option.

Im not that bothered about the green beret, Its cool but what really does it for me is the 'Royal Marines Commando' flashes i think they're called. They go on the sholder. They look awesome and thats what im gonna work for.

So you want to be a Royal Marine to look 'cool'? In front of um...other people who have....the same flashes?

What happens when you see a flash that is better than the Royal Marines? Leave and apply for them? What happens if its the enemies?

Seriously though, atleast give it a go and then you can say to yourself "at least i tried". No one ever gets anywhere if they give up before actually getting to the first bit
