Harry, your mentioning the old style webbing, reminded me of the time I
recieved a nasty dig from the RSM of 40, Cdo when we were at Mtarfa
barracks 48.I was down for guard duty, paraded in KD and white gear.
RSM does the inspection, finds some blanco residue in a belt eyelet, he
then whispered,in his best parade ground voice, the following words,so
hurtful that I remember them to this day,Quote"You are like a F----Ing
Guardsman,clean on top,and F---ing filthy underneath."How's that for
a punishment?

Owdun gets sippers!
you two were both in around the time of the Korean War, I beleive.
What do you know/remember about an incident near Chosin, when Elmer was surrounded by the indians, the wagons were in a circle and his cavalry refused to help?
Royal offered his help( 45, I think), had to fight their way in, rescue Elmer, then fight their way out again. The Unit was awarded a Presidential Citation by Elmer`s boss. Which must`ve been embarassing for him, as it publicised the fact that his army has no bollocks
as ever,

Harry,as I remember it ,41 Independant Commando was the main unit
in a combined effort called Driforce, after the CO of 41,Col Drysdale.
It seems they fought their way through to the 5th Marine Div.who were
in the deep doody at a place called Chosin, opening up the road in,and then covered them on the retreat out.Unit Citation followed, and Yank
reverence of the Green Beret has been in evidence ever since.
Owdun.

Harry
It was 41 Ind Cdo that was involved in the Chosin withdrawl, their Boss at the time was Lt Col Drysdale.
The other unit involved was the USMC 1st Div who were cut off after units on their flanks with less bottle retreated after a big Korean/Chinese push.
41 along with other USMC units fought their way in and conducted a fighting withdrawl with the rest of the 1st Marine Div.
Initially 41 were not awarded the Presidential Citation, but after protests from the US Marines 41 were included.
This brings me to the next question, why couldn't 41 wear the Citation Badge up until they were disbanded?, the Glosters got the same Unit Citation and continued to wear it I think up to amalgamation in the 90s.
Harry if you want to know more send me a Tony.

Gentlemen with regards to the presidential citation for the 41st (Ind) Royal Marine Commando,When 41 was again reformed in 1960,the following year the commando was presented with the Queens and Regimental Colours on the 29th of November 1961.Chosin Day, the Battle streamer of the Presidential Unit Citation was ceremonially attached to the Regimental colour, when the Queen granted permission for the battle streamer to be displayed on the colours of 41 Commando they became unique in the history of the Royal Marines. Chosen Frozen, has a certain ring to it,
thanks, Men, for the info. This is your heritage, your "family history".
Don`t matter when you served, this small incident typifies what "Royal Marine Commando" is all about.
As Elmer would, no doubt, say, "OORRRAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHH Hard- Charging, Jaw-Head, Ass- Kicking, ROYAL MARINES"
All, charge your glasses and take a drink

Harry

what they got up to in their own time was no-one else`s business.
Don`t ask, don`t tell.
Ratso`s mate, Ewan, was senior Amphib Officer(slightly better looking too, don`t you think?) You`ve been flying low all week, busy at work?

As always the Andrew like to double the workload, they needed one just for themselves!
High not Low..... you could connect dissappearing and frequent questions about the visual effect of this, anatomically speaking.
