I did'nt see the programme, but I think the jet is the Joint Strike Fighter, produced by Martin and Lockheed. However, the RAF and RN, are still getting it as well as the USAF US Navy. For more info go to the RAF website, equipment, aircraft, and then to the section at the bottom which says Future Requirements

The competition is not between BOEING and BAE, but between BOEING and Lockheedmartin. If i remember it correctly, BAE was just a sub contractor for lockheed (there is also a German, and Canadian sub contracting for BOEING). I dont think the Americans would've trusted another foreign country to build its fighter/bomber jets for them.

They got an RN air wing bod in to test out the VTOL capability too. Great plane, and we're getting 150! It's a pity the MoD won't go for the C varient though
BAE was just a sub contractor for lockheed
BAe was 15% of the total project, mostly in the VTOL area of work, without BAE's experience with VTOL it's likley that Boeing would have won because lockheed wouldn't have been able to get the VTOL done in time. All the others in the contract came in after the design was finished (we came in in the middle) so only have about 1-5% of the final contract.

Regarding the Nazi research into flying saucers, as I understand it, from various satellite Chanel's. The technology was given to de Haviland in Canada, they spent a lot of money on the project but got nowhere.
It may have been part of a plot, but they spent an awful lot of money on misdirection.
Personally I subscribe to the 'cock up' theory of history.

I really don't like Lockheed Martin after what happened with the starfighter.
I wish Boeing would have got the contract but the X-32 just isn't up to it. It would be a shame to scrap the design. I'm sure with more development it could be put to good use and they've learnt allot from the programme. They are ahead in the race to develope a UCAV. Does anyone know what they plan to do?
The X-35 is a brilliant aircraft; it's got to be said.
It really out-performed the X-32 in all the tests.
