Yeah they test your eyes by shining green and red lights together and asking you what color it is. They also make you read numbers out of a book (if you cant see the numbers it means your color blind).

I dont think they allow you in the Royal Marines if your color blind>? I'm not a AFCO approved doctor though so what do I know...

A mate failed his medical because of colour blindness, he also failed his apptitude test, and his PJFT, bless him he doesnt realise hes a complete biff!

I didn't think colour blindness was a bar to the majority of careers. If anything I would have thought colourblindness would be a desirable trait in an infantryman...green camouflage doesn't fool them?

People who are colour-blind see movement better or something to that affect.

i.e. a camouflaged enemys movements will be easier spotted.

Not sure on that one, but they do have a better colour perception in that they can see different shades of green a lot more clearly than a normal-sighted person. So they can tell the difference between red and green - one is simply more green than the other
Likewise they find it much easier to detect the camo gear amongst the scenery. I read somewhere that in Vietnam colourblind snipers were highly sought after.

Well no matter what is said colourblindness is not accepted in the British Military.

Linguists in the RAF are allowed to be colourblind but that's the only aircrew role it's ok for.

As about seeing different colours better im dont think that i do, i can tell red from red and green from green its just that book with the number on that i dont do very good on but on the other one where you gotta match the colours to the one in the middle i get perfect results.
