The Balloon was an old barage balloon on a WINCH no crew needed, just some bored craphat sitting on the back of a wagon with an up and down button..
I don't know whats going on but that balloon jump should have earned you your wings on it's own, I have never been so scared before or since. And stepping off the edge and dropping like a stone for 200ft beats any roller coaster ride x 10....
I bet it was scary, shitting myself now thinking about it
I hope that milling isn't replaced/going to be replaced because i am looking forward to that part of P-Company, providing i can get that far.
Im gonna get twatted in milling... but a small voice in the back of my mind keeps tellin me im gonna turn into a demon and unleash one thousand years of pain on the mother who steps in the ring with me..... mixed emotions, ya'know.

Glyn Worsnip's "The Paras" was good except for one mistake: a "Craphat" is never a form of headress (as wrongfully stated. Pity it's not on DVD...
But never mind that.
I'm praying that, one day, they'll release "Combat 89" on video/DVD. It was an ITV series covering an army competition. Various inf regts played. Needless to say who won. On a 36 hour event, the 2 PARA team won by a margin of 7.5 hours over the next team.
The next year, they turned it into an army style "It's a knockout" between English, Scots, Welsh and Irish(?) regts with mixed genders. Yawn. Reminds me of the 66 LAW - "use once and throw away". Watched it once for the first 15 minutes then painted the living room door and watched it dry. More interesting.

I'm pretty sure that if your main had failed on the first balloon jump, not many people would have know about it.
200 ft before your chute fully develops,so if it hadn't come out in the first place you would not have a lot of time to react. (jump height 800 ft).

I remember combat 89, wasnt it Scots guards -v- Para regt in the final up in scotland? With the RM providing a rigid raider for the loch crossing. A landrover drive followed by a yomp, and the guards crashed their rover?
Missed the second series, luckily by the sounds of it
wasnt one of the early rounds pulling a wombat around a course?

One of the Recruits from the BBC series The Paras is now a WO1 RSM in the SAS. His son is also in the Parachute Regiment.

FARKIN SWITCH ON!
That kind of shit will get people in deep, deep shit! It doesn't make you look good just because you know somebody's name! If you don't give a shit about your own personal security don't be so farkin blase' with others. It's about time some of the people posting on here had a reality check! If you can not stick to the basic rules of OPSEC and the Moderators don't pick you up I WILL use all assets at my disposal in identifying you and if you are currently serving I WILL pursue it .This kind of shit is not clever! YOU have been warned!

I love that series! Pure legend! Not that i'm biased at all...
some great quotes in that show; "i will issue you with two words of command, standby and go, you go on the go!" and on the 10 mile tab "Come on over take him Cambell, show him what a bum he is!" to name a couple
