He's a sgt ok but ground crew - no wings.

He's a regular or conscript. Got no VR collar dogs, so he could be national service not WW2. The fact that's he's got a strap over his shoulder could mean he's carrying a 'small pack' not a gas mask. So that makes me think it's after WW2.

He does appear to have a medal ribbon above his right breast pocket so the picture is probably the wrong way round.

He's walking down a street with a child so he's either on leave or walking home from work. That might indicate he's a pad.

He's also wearing shoes - not boots. So he's probably clerical.

Good conduct badges weren't handed out in WW2 or after so that could be a trade badge.
