I spent a few years with the RGJ and can confirm that they were the finest Infantry Regiment the British Army ever had.
ALL other fish and chip mobs copied their example but never even get close.
As for the 'falling Plates' ....That name was given to the Green Howards in NI....

The Royal Green Jackets were one of the finest bunch of men you could wish to serve with.
Yes they were rough, but would you want to go into harms way with a bunch of tree huggers?

They were also utterly loyal to each other and their Regiment - none more so. They had their share of scallys, but so does every group.
They were probably as good as the best the British Army had to offer, better than a lot of others, and always willing to get the job, any job, done.... soldiering was their game, believe me, they were good at it in all theatres of operations.

Cyprus has been mentioned and without doubt it was a stain on our fine Regiment - but I would ask you to remember that Green Jackets and their forebears won more Victoria Crosses than any other Regiment, (note Regiment, before you argue) - this is not meant in mitigation - just to say that you cannot blame all Green Jackets for the actions of a couple of criminal misfits.

42 years after I signed on, and retired these past 13 years having served 30 years, I maintain contact with Greenjobs and am proud to do so.
