Previous Topic Regarding a Fitness Tracker (URGENT)ish
Someone spoke of a fitness monitor/sports watch device a few weeks ago on here.
It was a new model of some type that recorded your run time / distance etc and was PC compatible.
I can't find the particular post anywhere now!
If it was 'you' who mentioned it please give me the web address or the name of the model as I want to get the parents on the case of getting it for christmas!
Thanks!

That was it mate; I bought the forerunner 205 for my g/f as an xmas present a few days after I started this thread:

Someone on here recommended it to me. I've opened the box and had a little play, and to be fair it does look quite impressive

- If you overtrained, it means that you didn't train hard enough to handle that level of training

Alrite mate I have one of these GPS Watches and it is amazing how much it helps. This is the one ive got -

I prefer it more to the smaller 205 cause it tells you more on the display insted of having to mess around with it during your run. Also it can all be unploaded to your computer using the supplyed tracking software.
Features etc-

I might treat myself to one of these when i start running again after my splints have gone.
One thing im wondering though, does gps work accuratly on height as well as distance? So i mean, running up a high hill,is obviously a differnt length than if you were to measure from your start and finish along a hozizontal line.
Stupid question, but couldnt quite remeber if it would or not.
I was getting into running up the downs before i had to stop,so something like the watches mentioned would be awesome for just getting out and running, and not having to work out distances all day.

A cheaper way of finding out how far you have run or are going to run is something like Google Earth. I find it much better than mapmyrun as you can select to right outside your front door (if your area is covered in high enough res photos)
But failing that mapmyrun would be fine, cant really see the need for a GPS watch, unless theres a super awesome cool ability it has other than measuring your run distance?

If you click the Hybrid option on Mapmyrun you get a view like in Google Earth.Mr_Kiwi wrote:A cheaper way of finding out how far you have run or are going to run is something like Google Earth. Well prepare to be educated my friend!
A Smoot is a measurement of 170.18cm, the height of an MIT student named Oliver R. Smoot (class of 1962). His fraternity decided to measure the Boston harbour bridge by lying him down over and over, turns out it measures 364.4 smoots plus one ear.
See now you would have never known that if I had used mapmyrun and your life would never have been complete!

Fair call, fair call. I stand corrected. Perhaps I should email Mapmyrun and get them to include Smoots in their software.
Should make it easier for everyone!
Wow! That means my 2,820.5 Smoots time is 21 minutes. That's cool considering the PRMC requires less than 22.5 minutes.
What's your 2820.5 Smoots time?
Sam.
Oh by the way, 2820.5 Smoots (incase it didn't make sense) is 3 miles.
