Regarding spirit, it did not look like we wanted it. No matter whats said in the changing rooms, what the coach tell's you, what the media says etc, it all comes down to what happens on the field. They're the ones playing the game, not anyone else. On our side, it was crap. End of.

We got what we deserved, a good wake up call when it comes to Football. Another question I've heard raise is about the quality of the English players. Obviously they're good, but are they really that good? Or is it the fact that because the Premier League is so rammed full of foreign players that because of their additional skills, they make our player's look better than they actually are?

I think thats a fair arguement to be honest.

What hasn't come as a shock though was what I saw on the news today. How much money we're going to loose because England didn't make it in.

F*ck off. :x

It sounds like they're blaming the team as well for their upsets. You shouldn't invest way too much in football then should you. That should make them think twice about their plans to rip people off over kits and other football merchandise.

Pub's I can understand though.

Dangermouse, how can you defend McClaren?

The formation, the line-up, the lack of urgency, the confused manner in which England consistently play, all stem from McClaren.

I would go into the problems we faced last night, the basic mistakes that were made, but frankly I can't be bothered.

What world are the FA on? They believe they can push for major championships so they employ the assistant of the man they all despised. What is McClaren's pedigree, what does his honour's list consist of?

Jack Shit.

Fabio Capello has announced his interest in the job, a man with a stack full of trophies to his name. Instead they look to O'neill, and Mourinho. Don't get me wrong anyone is an improvement on McClaren, but if you want a big time team you need a big time manager.

Maybe if we had landed Scolari two years back, by now he could have established England amongst the Euro 2008 favourite's.

If only, if only........

How can you say this? Do you have access to England training, team meetings and the dressing room before the game at half time? No. So you have no idea whether he's managing them poorly or they're not carrying out his instructions correctly.

This totally contradicts what you just said. Basic errors (such as Carson not getting his body behind the ball for the 1st goal) are player errors, not managerial.

That said, the rest of your post I agree with. The FA should never have appointed a second rate club manager in the first place. But I don't think that can be blamed on McLaren, he's not exactly going to turn down the opportunity is he?!

What a pointless post, you have tried to rip my opinion's apart using sarcasm?

Asking Darren Bent to warm up on 29mins, before telling him to re-join the bench shows McClaren's hesitation, and extreme lack of self belief.

Partnering Gerrard and Lampard in the middle of the field has been discussed countless times, and the whole country is unanimous on that it simply doesn't work.

Was that the player's fault? Maybe they should have ignored him and both played up front.

Did I claim McClaren told Carson to defend his goal with such lazy attempts?

McClaren is not entirely to blame, maybe I should have spelled that out for you.
but frankly I can't be bothered.
I chose to do a Carson instead.

Why is it that football always ends in people wingeing and moaning? Yet in rugby people just make a few jokes and say 'oh well better luck next time'

ADDiction:

My post was not mean to sound sarcastic, unfortunately the biggest drawback of the written word is that the tone is determined by the reader and not the author.

I do not believe my post was pointless, this is a public forum and I am simply voicing my opinion in response to yours, as are you.

You asked how Dangermouse can defend McLaren, I ask how you can so quickly criticise him without knowing the facts. He has, lets not forget, won more games than he has lost.

You also pointed to the basic mistakes that were made. As I, I feel quite validly, pointed out, I don't feel that the manager can be held accountable for misplaced places, lack of discipline in defence or goalkeeper errors.

I also did not claim that McLaren was blameless. As you, quite rightly in my opinion, stated, Gerrard and Lampard do not seem to play well together. I believe this could be attributed to the management, I think a more experienced international manager find a style of play that would enable these 2 world class players to combine well.

AJ:

I do not see any 'handbags' on this thread. We are having a reasoned debate on an open forum. I don't think we need you to stand in the middle with your e-whistle.

Because that's a man's game. 8)
I'm just offering my opinion on how crap English football has become. I'm not an expert or a regular with football, but I sure as hell know what team effort and sacrifice is and how the team work's. It's not that different in Rugby. So I use my experience to reflect.

By the way: 'The beautiful game'.
I love watching international matches and the buzz that goes with supporting my country but my arse does that statement ring true in football. 8)

Well, I wasn't having a pop at anyone or acting as a middle man, neither did I say people were using 'handbags' either. So don't tell me how to conduct myself.

Thank's for your patience.
