My final ex was horendous. We were the first troop to do the new final ex package. This is what happened, beach recce, beach assault, 12 mile night yomp, viking to HLS, Helo to dartmoor, Honking 9 1/2hr yomp up and down hills, harbour, yomp, OP, Orders, Ambush for 6 hrs, Killer yomp straight into a troop attack, harbour, LUP, harbour, troop attack, yomp to HLS, fly to fort, LUP, OP, Final attack. End EX.

Needless to say My troop lost 7 strong blokes in this including 2 diamonds. It was physically the most painful thing I have done. It was not that much tactical as it was Death by yomp.

Felias that sounds like a beast of an exercise, is that the very last exercise before you pass out?

And then you join your first unit and find out that it is not uncommon to do this sort of thing all the time! If you can't take a joke then don't join up in other words.

Yomping is a fact of Bootneck life so get used to it gentlemen or apply to be a (D). :D

Yes, the yomps are tactical. You stop and do 50-50 routine. Killer yomp is 10 miles. It's pretty bad as the terrain is up and down for ages. You will get mega pissed off at the boggy terrain and your feet will be Piss wet through from the start to finish of the ex. I did mine in Jan, remember that week where those gales killed 11 people around the country... Yep on Dartmoor then. Twas fun. . My advice is get through the yomps and you will pass as long as you don't Foxtrot up on the tactical side.

The lads just wrapped because it was that bad and the weather was taking the piss. We had a capt from the RMR who resigned after the ex... That says a lot.

What you trying to say about rubber daggers Felias? :o
Final Ex always seems so different from one to the next, i guess its all just dependant on resources and what not aswell. They do all get the same core stuff in though. Ive heard some that have sounded awesome, and people have really enjoyed them, and then some that have sounded fairly dull and just been a hangout. Luck of the draw i guess, and the only important thing is that you pass, whether you enjoy it or not.

I cant imagine you'd want the weather to be too nice though tom? Yomping in the heat is a killer aswell, but i guess at the end of the day its all irrelavent really as you've come this far and your going to just crack on regardless.

Best of luck mate, and enjoy your leave.

Killer yomp's only 10 miles?! They'll be driving you round it before long... :o Our insertion yomp was that far. We did 16-odd miles on killer yomp, and that was only cos there was so much clag the helo couldn't land where it was meant to, so we gained five or six miles :D

The exercise itself is hoofing, just the yomping you've gotta cope with.
