Failed eyesight

Post by yet_mae »

Sent my eyes report off with my application form as my local AFCO told me to do, got a phone call today saying my right eye was 1 line off the eye chart, or something along those lines.

He genuinly sounded gutted for me and wished me a "Merry Christmas" and said how sorry he was.

Well not the best start to a Merry xmas but not alot I can do about it.

You lot with good eyesight, hope you appreciate it. :)

Good luck to anyone else starting RT in the new year.

That must be gutting, you have my sympathy. I wear glasses, and was shitting myself when I had my eyesight test, it being the one thing you can't really work on to improve. Luckily I scraped through, but it still worries me. Don't feel too bad its not something you have any control over and have a good Christmas.

I enquired about laser treatment recently and afco sent me a letter saying that you are allowed certain types and then reapply 12months later. Dont know if this is maybe an option for you?

Cheers lads, it's a right pain in the ass because there's not alot you can do about it, my optician said that laservision won't work on me, can't rememeber all the detaisl why not but she said it won't be possible.

You's av a good xmas aswell, i'm sure I still will, just have to get even more drunk this year.

Terrible news, I am very sorry to hear this mate, Does it rule out all military service, I hope this news doesn’t knock you back to much mate. At least you are not too old to find yourself a great career in life. Keep your chin up mate

Thanks rgj, it wasn't too bad as I was half expecting to fail the eyestest, it would of been worse if i thought I had good eyesight.

my original plan was to join the fire brigade but it's pretty tricky to get recruited around here, it's not really a fulltime thing that's available, and you have to live within a certain radious of the fire department.

Suppose it might be worth going for another look at it.

Thanks again lads, you lot know how shit it must feel because you lot are well keen on joining the marines like i was.

Good luck to ya all, i'll still be around checking the thread out though.
