Wages

Post by COMBAT WOMBAT »

Hi all. Just wondering, after all the deductions and whateveer, the £3.93 per day for food and a bed etc. How much are you normally left with at the end of the week for saving up and spending? I aim this question at both the money you get as a recruit and when you are first qualified and on 13 and a half grand a year.

Is probably why the RM is undermanned at the moment - how come the forces doesnt stay 'in-line' with civilian pay schemes, i mean, how many other jobs do you know where you are expected to have extended periods of absence from your family with the prospect of catching bullets?

Still, its not all about money, just wish id be better paid when i get in.  :D
PJFT : 9.12
PRMC : 24th May... FAILED

Damn right! I'm not in it for the cash Wombat!
Just think about it, its free everything! Free food, no mortages, free quaters, free holidays (with a gun by your side for company) - money is not a factor :)

Agreed, I`m not in it for the money. If I was I know it wouldnt be the job for me.

Its about more than money, something money cant buy. Ask Prince Edward.

I had a feeling i'd get plebs giving it 'if you're thinking about the money then this isn't the career for you'.
Of course i'm not in it for the money, but it's still important. Wanting to know how much i'll be getting paid is being sensible, it stands to reason that the if all goes well and i earn me a green beret, then i almost certainly won't be a marine for all of my working life and i intend to buy a house and stuff in the future.
Beardo, maybe if you are so daft as to not even care about your finances then maybe you're the one needs to look at himself, not me.

P.S. it really pissed me off for you to suggest i wasn't right for this career, pass your PRMC first before gobbing off.

He is right, you always want to know what your pay is going to be. So you can support yourself and not get into debt.

A good idea would be to get a mortgage on a house with your wages and then rent it out, get someone else to pay for it and you have a house when you come out.

Thats my plan anyway.

Yeah, that's what i was thinking. But when you buy the property, don't you then need to do it right up before anyone would want to actually rent it?
Bur if someone could rent it just to pay off your mortgage then it could be really good, expecially seeing as just getting them to pay the mortgae is also cheaper for the renter rather than paying rent.

Answer to original q - as a nod over 18 you see around £650-£700 per month; after week 26 I think (6 months) you get around an extra £100 per month; after pass-out, an educated guess would say about £950 a month, but don't quote me on that last one. Bear in mind you get extra pay if you go operational etc.
