No Mans land...

Post by Vladek »

Did anyone see that film, think it was on BBC4 a while back, just repeated on bbc2. Worth watching.

I mean at the end what should that guy do? Move off the mine and surely die or lay on the mine knowing that you're going to die if you stay there. Must be horrible.

He should have got someone to shoot him in the head. Or the others should have shot him in the head without telling him, that way he wouldn't worry about it.

yeah it was... Like a Serb and a Croat in a trench and one guy was wounded(?) and put on a land mine...and one of those nasty Prom jobs that jumps into the air and makes a dent in the earth the size of Luxembourg... and in the end they all just go and leave him.. V strange..

When I first saw it advertised for BBC4, I remember thinking "too soon to make a comedy about this...", but when I saw it I thought it was an excellent peice of film-making. Dark enough to make you think about certain aspects of war, but managed to retain a deliciously funny facade. Cracking :D

I saw this movie a long time ago...if its the one im thinkin of, the German mine handler stuck on the mine right?

In reality i think they could of got another expert too come in and disarm it from underneath em. But i don't know squat about mines so maybe its not possible.

Rubber duck - it sure was! Not "haha" funny though, it was just outlining some of the absurdities of conflict with an alternative attitude. Saving Private Ryan did it by having Opam (sp? the translator guy) shoot the german he made friends with at the end of the film. No Mans Land did it by having two guys from opposing armies stuck in the same trench.

And of course, any scene with the UN head honchos in it. :D

The mine the guy was lying on was off the same type as seen in that film where the American pilot was on the run in Bosnia.
Soory forgot the name of the 'film.'
In this film there bis a scene where two Serbs(one army, on checnick), are chasing him through a wooded are and the Serb in uniform treads ona mine.
It has three prongs and is designed so that o0nce troden on you have to tack your foot off before a small charge blows the mine up out of the ground and then the main charge goes off.

Because the three prongs move you can't diasam it by uses wire through the safety holes that you find on some mines.
The only possible way would to keep the prongs depressed by sliding something on them between the victim.
