Someone had to do it! Its depressing to see that nobody has posted in this part of the forum for a while. :(

Time to try and revive things :D

Are there any people on here that are still wanting to join the Paras?

Anyone at uni or school thinking of joining?

If you are then we can use this topic to see what stage everyone is at and if i, or any of the other serving paras (and ex paras) can give you some advice and/or tips for training and preparation to join Britains finest infantry regiment. 8)

Feel free anyone to give me a PM if your thinking of joining or you just want to know some more about what its like to be in the Paras and i can give you my MSN messenger address for a chat.

Good on you mate. 8)

How far in training did you get? What platoon were you in?

Takes balls to go back up to Catterick for a second time i think...i made damn sure i was there for the MINIMUM amount of time! Luckily i was and made it out of there in one piece after the 26 weeks. 1 of only 12 guys who managed to get through first time in my platoon....it pays to be a winner :D

Haraldo....sorry, Harry  :P ............thanks for the XMAS card, and happy new year to you too 8)

Nah mate i think i was a bit misleading with what i said, i wasnt in training for the para's i was in training for the Engineers, i only did 30 odd days and then i was hit with a muscle spazm in my hip. :x So im going for the Paras this time which is the job i always wanted to do, had 8 months and some to prepare so im getting my fitness up pretty well.

Oh well, you still have to go back to a training establishment and get treated like sh*t for another 6 months so fair play to you. This time you will be working towards something.....passing P-Company and earning your right to go onto Parachute Training, and of course wearing the maroon machine 8)

What fitness are you doing at the moment?

Right now im doing,

4.5 Miles 3 Times a week
11.5 Miles endurance once a week
Hill sprints once a week
Then i do Pullups, Pressups (which is the lowest thing for me right now) and situps 6 times a week with one rest day for them, as well as core excerises.

2 Rest days for CV, ive been working up to that for a while now just to make sure i can get my peak fitness and none can say that my previous injury will effect me. So i should be ok for RSC i hope lol :o then i might do more distance after ive passed that just for endurance purposes before Catterick.

Sounds like your doing all the right stuff there.

What is your BFT time at the moment? Can you easily get under 9 minutes 18 seconds??

How fast are you running? Are you doing about 7 minute miles on your 4.5 mile runs or doing it under 30 minutes?

Im pretty confident at my BFT being under 9:18, and when i run on the roads which is pretty uncommon, only when its really bad weather at the beach I run on, I can do 5 miles under 37 Mins, 7.5 Miles in around 52 Mins which is around 8MPH, they are really the only times I record myself on, So i would say that my cardio isnt too bad, although could be room for improvement.

I dont really much take the time on my normal runs, because on the soft sand its more the effort i put in then anything.

although i guess ill find out if its enough when i get to rsc or basic.

Those times are good....better than me at the moment

Too much booze! :drinking: Something you will discover when you get to a Para Battalion :D

RSC you should p*ss on with the level of phys you are on at the moment, but when it comes to depot itself you will want to do as much as you can before hand because you will need it!!! Dont kid yourself though, its still going to hurt :D

Its always best to play the grey man at depot so when you turn up at catterick and you find that you come first in the steeplechase and BFT and all the other fitness tests in week 1 you know that you can step off the gas a bit and try not to be first at everything, otherwise your staff will be watching you like hawks expecting you to come first every time and set the standard of the platoon....not the person you want to be, in my opinion.

Have you got your head round the interview stuff?? They will obviously ask you why you want to join, why not join the Green Jackets instead blah blah blah! I got asked about how long training is going to be, how many para battalions there are and where they were based and what operations the paras had been on recently, simple stuff like that, but could trip you up if you walk in unprepared.

 I hope so lol, thats what ive been trying to get to for the past 8 or so months is trying to get my times and pullups into a reasonable state. Ive got all the interview stuff sorted pretty much, ie. the knowledge part i have enough of i hope .

Now i just really need to get my pressups into a better shape. :-?

Ive done everything except RSC or ADSC whatever they call it now so far which should hopefully be in the next few weeks. Im running 7:50 1.5 miles atm and trying to build my upperbody strength up only doing 59 pushups in 2 mins at the moment. I went 3 months into training at Vimy barracks 3.5 years ago when i was joining RWF but had to leave cos of family probs but thats all sorted now so nothing to stop me this time. 8)
