NON ISSUE FIREARMS ONTO BASE?

I'm curious to know if I can purchase and or import, store and discharge non military issue/ custom firearms on base in the British Army. I haven't got an FAC yet but If I joined the ARMY I would hope to be able to spend some quality time on firing ranges.

Can I purchase and own firearms in the ARMY or are they real strict on this?

The Forces are not keen on personnel owning their own firearms. The problem is you have to have the correct licences for this. If one was granted then the Police could insist that they can inspect the storage of this weapon at any time which means you would have civilians in areas that they should not really be in. Also it would depend on your rank on taking a firearm out of the stores with ammunition unsupervised. Also they would not be keen on some body firing thousands of pounds of ammunition for there own amusement.

So I think you will find the answer is NO

Thanks Tab.

I know that I can be posted in one of many bases and that access to my private property would therefore be limited but here goes.. Assuming that I had an FAC - if I stored the rifle on my private property, I wouldn't be able to bring this into the barracks?

I assume I would only be able to assemble it once on a supervised range if I could and I know that there are other locations where I could discharge it - I just figure it would be more convenient is all.
