Hi
My partner and i have been together for 2years and currently he is in the process of joining the RAF Regiment (Next step is PGAC, Potential Gunners course in 2days).
We plan to get married but there is a great chance that he will be off on Basic Training before the beginning of August this year.
I was wondering if anybody could tell me would it be best to either:
1) Wait until he has completed his basic training and wed then? If so, how long would we have to wait until all the paper work was done and we were given a house?
2) Try and squeeze getting married in before he leaves on his Training and that way they would already have the details of our marrige and can start arranging housing.
I also have one other question???
If we were married before he left on training, would i have to wait until the very end of his training to join him or is there a chance we would be housed at the end of phase 1 and he would continue with phase 2 elsewhere?
Thanks

RAF regiment and housing????
You need to think why you want to marry him, as it seems you either want to marry to get a place or because he is joining.
Married Qtrs are not given at a click of a button, sometimes you will need to wait.
My sugegstion to you is to wait, let him settle into his military career and see if he enjoys it. Then if you both are still wanting to be together, they marry. Him joining the military is a big step and you going in the deep end with him could be a little more stress than is needed.
However that is what I think, others may disagree.

Didn't mean to be offensive, just thought a clear picture may help with answers.
So he has an actual joining date etc so I couldn't see the harm in phoning the housing association just before he joins about a marriage qtr. However, I have never been married but I know the waiting list can be a pain.
I know in the in the RN you can move into your qtrs a good while before the wedding, is this the same with the RAF?

Evening ladies,
in the RAF you can occupy a MQ 6 weeks before your big day. However, i've never heard of anyone getting a quarter while on training. A) He'd have to be in the block with the rest of his course anyway and B) He might not pass the training.
Best of luck to you both, whatever happens.
