Attended the local Parish Council service, before anyone else arrived I noted s bottle of beer on the memorial. Looking closer it had a RM Commando flash and a Afghan wrist band on the bottle was written “In memory of Darbs, KIA 23/6/10”.
This was noted by a few people and prior to the official wreath laying was removed. On completion the bottle was returned by a Parish Councilor to stand with the wreaths laid by the RBL etc.
A fitting tribute by someone who knew Darbs. BZ Royal.
Sergeant Steven William Darbyshire from 40 Commando Royal Marines, serving as part of Combined Force Sangin, was killed in Afghanistan on Wednesday 23 June 2010.
