Team work is essential, it gives them other people to shoot at. - Unknown

Re: Sniper School
Do you know any one that has been to both so that we can find out if they are alike

I've no idea but they can't qualify unless they know basic English grammar.Ares-God of War wrote:Is the British Snipers trained like the US Recon Snipers?

Re: Sniper School
I once had a conversation with an experienced RM Sniper, who was of the opinion that US snipers have access to more practical training because they have lots of reserved land for ranges, with classrooms right there.
Whereas over here, it's hard to get range time and when you do it's very limited, and not near the classroom or camp where you'd be training (doing the theory side) - therefore a hassle and interrupting the relation of theory to practical.
I don't know this to be true or not myself but perhaps someone with a US military background could add some input here.....?

Re: Sniper School
Looking at the Sniper course run by the RM now (Changed a lot since 78!!) its very much akin to the US Marines (ISTR they visited CTC to learn about setting up their own school). The USMC version is still a bit hyper compared to the RM version.

Re: Sniper School
The USMC as stated have more room for sniper activities than the British.
Camp Lejune being one of the larger ones they will only take riflemen of a high standard within the Corp.
The US Army have their own and I was able to see both operations as a lowly NGM.
I did make a note at the time that both USA and USMC took their candidates from the southern states where you grow up around firearms and have to shoot dinner
Possum Pie anyone?

Hi Wholley
Why do those Marines from the southern States shoot their dinner, is it still running around on the plate.
