Survival Training

Post by Mal »

I know that in basic training they will teach me the basics of survival like the items of my backy tin survival items, along with how to put up shelters and such like. All military personnal like that should know the basics of survival, but is that as far as it goes?

Somehow I want to specialise in survival. If I can I will aim to become a military survival instructor. Does anyone know much about this subject and how I will be able to go about doing this once I become a member of the Parachute Regiment? I know its an unusual subject area, but its always interested me my whole life and its something I have always wanted to try and specialise in.

If anyone has any info about training in survival or even know anyone whos become a survival instructor can you let me know. I know it must be possible, otherwise where would the current survival instructors come from. Also, is there a certain amount of time you have to have served before you can take such a course?

Cheers, Mal

Fact

Post by sittingstress »

Ahem , I really am trying to contain my mirth at your pathetic posts but this time I will indulge you.

Firstly my credentials:

3 x Winter Survival Schools
1 x Air 427 Course
5 weeks extreme cold weather survival course
MANY E & E runs

Mal there is an army course that will qualify you as a Survival Instructor it is known as ASICS and run by Training Wing at Hereford. The score is that it is basically used as a vehicle for the Survival phase of Selection. Having attended all of the relevant courses I can assure you that the RN course is the best regarding info and practical experience.

I do draw your atttention to your wish to be able to run before you can crawl though.

Mal you are a bit of a wannabe and appear to have read many books yet still have no idea what the real world is all about.

Please do yourself a favour and gain some maturity as you currently stand the same chance of passing into the Para Regt as Jesus does of scoffing choccy eggs to celebrate his rebirth.

Regards

ss

I forgot

Post by sittingstress »

Sorry Mal I forgot to put something in language you understand: regarding Combat Survival, Escape & Evasion I am an aknowledged guru. Sounds gobby but it is true. I can't run very fast but by Christ I know what I am talking about.

NO regards

I must have missed some posts or something? :-?
He only asked a fu**king question Sittingstress! You were young, naive, and keen once aswell! Honest to f@#k! Jumping down these lads throats when all they do is ask the odd daft question is going to put them off visiting the site.
Mal, you can specialise in survival but not so much within the battalions. You would probably have to apply for a posting.
Cheers,
ED.
