pay cuts

Post by sky ninja steve »

This says that people that don't actually need to jump out of.planes that are parachute trained I.e. quatermasters storemen and cooks and the like will no.longer receive their specialist pay

So if the average Para earns about £1,000 a month, how much is the cost of living whilst in the army? How much can one expect to save a month? I'm not a very money oriented person, but I intend on using the money I save up whilst in the military to pay for Uni.

I think that there would be a case to take the Government before Courts for breach of contract on the employment. Now under industrial law they just can't change pay and conditions with out consultation. Now I know it is the Army and you have do what you are told, but I think it could be a job for the PRA to have a go on this on mens behalf. This money has been paid since the Regiment was formed 71 years ago and under past practises I think they would have a good case.

Bit of a "kick in the nuts" once more, hopefully if nothing else the Army will realise that unless you are permanently under jump orders you don't get paid. This will probably affect those RM para trained ranks and likewise the RAF Regt, do those other than SF/Recce/BRF really warrant jump qualification?

I know its not para related but we have the same sort of problems in the Engineers and i dare say in other Arms as well.

Engineer Divers get specialist pay. In the Earlier years everyone who qualified as an Engineer diver got the pay no matter what. Within the last 5 or 6 years not sure exactly when this was revised and basically everyone was told to keep your diving pay you had to be active and complete so many dives related to your classification in a certain time span. I believe it was every 3 months. What they were trying to combat was the old and bold that had risen through the ranks still getting paid and not doing the job.

This is the way i see it going now for you guys. It sucks big time but the Army now is all about saving money and cutbacks as everyone already knows.

It looks like these cuts have been cancelled or put on hold for the time being
