Black Ribbon

Post by penguin_army »

We have been told recently that we have to wear a black bow on our beret. I have no problem with this at all, however no one can tell me what it is for. Could someone please shed some light on this? Not even the crusty old 10 airborne blokes know why.

Most berets have a ribbon that runs arond the inside of beret and it should be tied in a bow at the back of the beret. This allows the beret to fit correctly to your head, now some people cut it of and others are inclined to pull it out and dump it as it can become a pain to keep it neat and tidy.

No, it's not the tie band at the back. It is a piece of black ribbon. It's like a bow that's ironed flat. The unit is 8 Fd, the REME bods. I don't even know if it's just us that wear it or the whole brigade. It's just the latest thing for the top corridor to moan about. First it was sidies, then piqued berets, then belts with your smock. Now it's the ribbon on the beret. I'm sure they'll go back to moaning about sidies next week.
