Back in the early 1930 the old Imperial Airways were doing this to get flights across the Atlantic. Also the Germans were doing the same thing with the JU 88 which had a V1 slung under the wing and that would be launched for the aircraft to try and give it longer range, but there were many reports from the RAF pilots who witnessed the JU 88 trying launch the V! in Flight and it failing to detach from the plane and they saw the JU 88 going in ever faster decreasing circles before it disappeared up its own tail.
