Just a slight spin on 'Harrys' mention about the war in Oman.
1 SAS:Operation Storm -- Secret War in the Middle East.
Author: Tony Jeapes.
Publisher: Greenhill Books.
2 In the Service of the Sultan: A First Hand Account of the Dhofar
Insurgency.
Author: Ian Gardiner
Publisher: Pen and Sword Military.
A rather secret war which also found the British and Iranians fighting on the same side.
Although the media tends to cover the SAS many other British troops were involved, mainly on secondment.
Not to mention those on contract.
Both serving and former Royal Marines being involved.

C`mon Rover.
You don`t look old enough to have been involved with Sultan Qaboos
That was a very interesting episode in the post war period.
If Brushfire (Britain’s Small Wars films arm) are looking for a further project after the most excellent "Return To Limbang" I think this would be a suitable subject. Enough time has passed for those who took part to be more fully appreciated for the work they put into this. As fine an example of counter insurgency as ever there was and UK SF at their best.
When is Elmer going to get the hang of this stuff?

Harry. I am still younger than Clancy.
Although perhaps not by much.
Regarding a film:
http://www.britains-smallwars.com/Desert_song/index.htm
Although very little is mentioned even though it lasted over seven years.
The main action most people are aware of, was the SAS battle at Mirbat.
I think a film/docu has already been made about this ?
Agree with you

Seen the Mirbat doc with the big lad from Fiji manning the 25 pounder and that`s a great piece. It is only the briefest snapshot though and the whole story deserves a thorough airing.
The old turkey snurgler is doing well mate
I don`t have a recent phot, apart from the one with a naked barmaid sat on his lap, but you don`t want to see such filth

Where Soldiers Fear To Tread.
Author: Ranulph Fiennes. (Yes that one)
Publisher: Hodder and Stoughton.
Harry. even today in a small pub in the Purbecks a certain persons demo of the 'one eared elephant' is talked about in hushed tones.

The Iranian embassy siege was a completely different situation; besides that, it occurred on our own soil and was played out on live tv. It remains the most immediate example.
And no, I don't think a police operation would have been successfull, they didn't have the skills nor training; why do you think they handed it over to the military...
