State Pension for Channel Island residents who served in the armed forces

Post by Jersey Onion »

Can anyone help with a query. I left the army after 5years in 1977 and returned home to Jersey (I do not qualify for an Army pension as only served 5 years and left before I was 26), however my full Jersey pension will be 5 years short of contributions due to my time in the army, if I had only served 3 years it would have been commuted over, but for 5yrs I've been told to claim a part UK pension (which would be peanuts), problem is under the "new pension" which I will come under as I was born after 1951, you have to have a minimum of 10yrs to qualify; therefore my NI contributions paid for 5 years are possibly worth nothing?. Has this happened to any other Channel Islanders? And if so do you have any solutions, I have written to the overseas pensions and tax offices to look in to for me, but heard nothing back so far. Thanks for any advice.
