Post by harry hackedoff »

Don`t know about you lot, but Royal Marines Association of Western Australia are dining out with Jack, Aussie Jack and the Nelson Society for a Trafalgar Night Celebration Dinner. This will replace our usual Corps Birthday Dinner later in the month. Is this a good thing Harry, I hear you ask. :-? Dunno mate, it kicks off with the Royal Australian Navy Band Beating Retreat which fills me with a sense of er hmm, yerrrs, :-? I`m certain it will be a success  :-?
Once Jack has finished boring me tits off and leaves us alone we`ll probably have a good sesh. :-? Kin hope so and I`ll be raising a tot or three in your general direction. Specially to our two Members who were there on the day  Good on you lads! 8) Jim and Frank take a make and mend 8)
Kicks off about 11 00hrs Zulu and I`ll have you all in my thoughts.
If it wasn`t for Nelson, we`d all be talking French.

`Cept me of course. I`d still be talking bollocks :P

Friday it is lads, raise your glasses and the toast is "Hearts Of Oak And Balls Of Steel, Two Hundred Years,Two Hundred More"

:drinking: :drinking: :drinking:

Trafalgar Day, was a busy day on The Ship. Clear Lower decks a 0800, clean ship and Victory parade, various Press and TV visits, No Public visits, VIP and Admirals tours for the Old man’s guide.
The Great cabin cleared and furnished for the Trafalgar day dinner. Royal in blues and ship manned for colours, Band on Victory Parade for Beating the Retreat. Royal guard and sentry outside the Great cabin, getting proffed with drinks from the civvie table flunkies.

At the end of the day being invited down to the Admirals house for a piss up with his staff.

Happy days that I remember with fondness

Thanks for the dit Mike, I see you finally trapped :P
Ref HM Ships names Frank, they do keep coming around(as do the unofficial versions 8) Conqueror was the attack boat that gave it to the Belgrano, Dreadnaught is another sub. One of me cuzz`s was a matelot on the Naiad in 82. She was way past her sell-by date, steering gear-box was farked so that she could do left-handers really well but she was shite at right hand down. :P You may think that would make parking her a bit of a bazzy, but she also had probs with the main gear-box which meant she could go faster in reverse. As long as the parking bay was to the left she was fine(sorry for all the nautical terms :P ) He’d been on board for eighteen months when the Falklands kicked off and she’d been like that since before he joined, no money see  Two days in the dockyard and hey presto, guess what 8)

Ref yer list of participating ships on the Winning Team, Jim, I’ve just been reading about the way the lads were feared by Kermit when it got up close and personal like. They shit themselves once the frog version of "Hands to repel boarders" was piped, because nine times out of ten it was going to end in tears for them. Once Jack and Royal came over the side it was bollocks to King and Country and let’s secure the prize :P What`s in it for me is a ver ver big incentive  . This was 19th Century retirement planing in practice 8) Buy yerself a nice boozer in Guz with your share of the prize and that’s you sorted mate. During the battle a French 75 was boarded by a party of fifty and she had over two hundred men on deck and at least six hundred on board. Can you guess what happened next? :P

Think of the history there. Two hundred years to those lads and over two hundred before them to Drake. Best Navy on the planet for over four hundred years, count`em. Three hundred and forty one of which Royal has been there, beating Jack at every opportunity 8)

Get down the offy Boys and get topped up with Pussers. Two hundred year anniversaries don’t come round every five minutes you know :P

And, wait for it O`Rourke :x Are you on drugs lad
No Sarnt
Well you farking well should be!
As you were!
And sing

When Britain first, at Heaven's command
Arose from out the azure main;
Arose from out the azure main;
This was the charter, the charter of the land,
And guardian angels sang this strain:
Chorus
Rule Britannia! Britannia rules the waves
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
The nations, not so blest as thee
Must, in their turns to tyrants fall
Must, in their turns to tyrants fall
While thou shalt flourish, shalt flourish great and free
The dread and envy of them all(This means you O`Rourke so look fierce you ugly bastard  )(Chorus)
Still more majestic shalt thou rise
More dreadful from each foreign stroke(No, O`Rourke, not that kind of stroke  )More dreadful from each foreign stroke
As the loud blast, the blast that tears the skies
Serves but to root thy native oak.(Root, root :o )(Chorus)
Thee haughty tyrants ne'er shall tame
All their attempts to bend thee down
All their attempts to bend thee down
Will but arouse, arouse thy generous flame
But work their woe, and thy renown.
(Chorus)
To thee belongs the rural reign
Thy cities shall with commerce shine
Thy ci-ties shall with commerce shine
All thine shall be, shall be the subject main
And every shore it circles thine.
(Chorus)
The Muses, still with freedom found
Shall to thy happy coast repair
Shall to thy happy coast repair
Blest isle with matchless, with matchless beauty crowned
And manly hearts to guard the fair.
(Chorus)

Royal Marines, stand at eyezzz ah, sternd eeezay

That is without doubt the hardest song to si hi hi hi hing. Get it right and they`ll have your babies 8) Get it wrong and, well what can one say

Even better indeed, young Beardo. Now fark off and write yer own piece about it, matey 8) Keep yer spirits up Royal, if you behave they might let you out soon

Anyhoo, back to the anti podes :-?

Aussie Jack`s Band really should just stick to military versions of "pub with no beer" and "Waltzing Matilda" The feelings of trepidation I had earlier, were well founded and the best thing one can say about their version of Sunset/Beating Retreat is it`s a good thing HM the Q wasn’t there to see it  She`d`ve gone effing ballistic :o On the plus side it made me realise just how spoilt we are with the Band. I will never take them for granted again, BZ Sticky Blue

Once inside the gaff, we were all seated to one side and the main area was given over to the RNA and all of their offshoots including the Arctic Vets Assoc who fielded several Members (complete with Sov era medals) Well done them. By way of originality, Jack had named the tables after the ships in JR`s list (Well I never Aitch, fark me who`d`ve thought of doing that etc blah blah  ) We were seated at "Colossus" :-? Top tip here, whenever you see "melon" as the starter for a mess dinner be very wary  And so it was with even more trepidation that I read the proposed menu last month and thought to meself "Melon? Farking Melon! He’s having a farkin larf innee :o " Much relieved to see that the threatened melon was abandoned in favour of the even more bland Oz equivalent, Pumpkin Bleeding Soup. Thought to meself "Farksake Jack, lift yer game mate :-? " Rest of the scran wasn`t three bad but the steak was a tad overcooked for this Member.(Wot, no blood :o )
The founding member of the Nelson Soc down here is Lt Col Graham Perkins RM(same vintage as Jim and Frank and he went outside after Suez to run the RMR in the south west) and he gave an incitefull talk on "The Immortal Memory" with the odd dit chucked in.
The top of the bill was a geezer I`d met earlier in the heads(Wot, again, Arry  tut) We were having a splash and as we shook hands he was spinning a dit about how his first job was Captain Of The Heads and this was going down a bomb with all at the trough except for Taff Reid who was tying to get his own dit in about a recruit called Fred. Unfortunately Taff was pished and did not deliver the correct punch line  Nill Pwan 8)
I though this Aussie geeze was a decent sort and made a mental note to look out for him at future events. He was in civvies whilst the rest of the Oz occifers wore tropo whites. Fashion sense :-? sadly not  Imagine my surprise as he’s introduced as the guest speaker, Vice Admiral Phil” hello Harry, I’ve heard all about you" Kennedy :o
Stunned and shocked I was :o He had `em rocking with yarns from his Service in three Navies and sixty-odd countries and his theme was the common touch displayed by Nelson. About how good it was to deal with people from whatever level, as people. one question he posed was "what message does it send that the most powerful man on the planet had never been outside the US of A before he became the Prez" Preaching to the converted there matey
Top night we had, and if certain Members want to get shiters and gob off throughout the speeches making twats of themselves, well so what? We aren’t going to fall out, I just won’t invite them to the three-hundredth anniversary 8)

Clocked me maileys today and this is gen.

Dear Kay and Harry,

I enjoyed last night the program and company was good, the RMA-WA was well represented, and you Kay looked stunning and were the 'Belle of the Ball'.
Best wishes,

Nick

Attached was a most unflattering phot of meself and Missus Aitch, she looks like her mum ffs
Image
here’s one Lord Mikey gets off on and it was taken with MY camera 8)
Paparrazzi :x . I ates the Bastards

Image

Well, ladies, that was how we celebrated the greatest Naval Battle in the history of the planet down here. What about you? I hope you at least sank a tot.
And for the benefit of our younger members, what you`ve just read is called a "Post"

Theiving Ozzies!!! B'stards have robbed me idea!

At Nelson mess "The Birthplace of Pickle Night" we are having the ships of the fleet, each table a ship and 200 personalised menus! ALL ONE OFFS. Who is doing them... kin muggins ere. We also have Table Standing orders and in cahoots with the orchestra and sound man Jack is in for some treats. All RMs are Captains of Marines and our orders go along the lines of "You are to maintain decorum on the ship and stand should any bugle call be sounded"
SORTED

Now here are some of the other's orders!
Powder Monkeys x2: If the hornpipe is played you are to stand and perform the hornpipe whilst moving around the table
Ship's Signal Officer: Upon any flag being raised you are to mime the nature of the signal to the ship you are on
1st Lt
Ship's surgeon
Ship's cat
Bosun's mate
etc etc
the punishment for not complying with the orders is that the ship will miss its resupply of wine on the next roiund (except the Capt of Marines  )
Drums beating, colours flying and bayonets fixed...

T`wasn`t the ausies, oppo. 8)
The evening was organised by the Royal Navy Association with a minimal input from Royal and the Nelson Soc(i.e. Royal and Jack).Surely youm`s seen the table/ ship gag before? :-?
Wotcher mean, don`t call me Shirley :P .
I like the idea of detailing off, like powder monkeys, Capn of Marines etc. Is this for next year`s gig btw? You can`t imagine how EVERY Booty yearned for Sunset to be played by a "real" band, mate :(

Worst thing about the gig? Some fat Matelot with a tray of drinks saying to me "Here`s a tot for you, Royal"
It was Lambs Navy Rum :(
My reply is not suitable for a familly audience and involved words like "poke that shite" and "your fat arse" and "you twat"
Lambs Navy Rum is the reason God invented hip flasks

This year H... I'll put a pdf of the menu up after the event (Friday 4th). The reason it is so late is because we are busy doing everything for everyone else as usual!

The orchestras, bands and buglers are a permanent fixture in the messes and functions at the moment. At least when we splice we'll be splicing a big one!

Just a bit of an update. The Nelson Soc are doing a Time Capsule to be planted on the 200th anniversary of his funeral, 8th Jan 06 and opened by Pres`s and Secs of the RNA RMA and Nelson Soc in fifty years time. They`ve asked for young reps from each Association to help plant the capsule and they are to act as it`s Guardians till Oct 2055 when it will be opened and the said Occifers will drink the bottle of vintage port.
Who`s the rep from RMA, Harry, I hear you ask! None other than Jack Hackedoff! 8) He`ll be as old as I am now when it`s opened :P There`s a Church Pde on Sun 8th Jan and you`re all welcome to attend
Any suggestions as to what we should put in the capsule? Vids of naked banyans of course, but what else? All suggestions gratefully accepted

Sticks, how did your gig go mate? Good of course :P :drinking:
Give us the Rembrant
